'83 Cutlass Cruiser Build Thread

Been debating adding the vinyl woodgrain trim around the car once it's painted. Should I do it?

Decided to take it easy this past week and didn't go work on the car tuesday or thursday.
I did go out today and got some sealer shot on my door and hood hinges.
This coming week I'll try and get the rear doors blocked out and back on the car.

Don't hold your breath! lol
I was having flashbacks of back when I used to have the (dis)honor of being the master blaster at the resto shop...
I do not miss it... at all!
There's a reason blasting places are always hiring... that sh*t ****in sucks.
I'd still like to get myself a decent sized blast cabinet. Cabinets are fun.
Then for anything too big for the cabinet I have no problem paying somebody else to do it!

Blasting is a freakin' messy job. That sh*t gets into everything.. Like you said, blast cabinets are fun though.

Blake, just a quick off topic question for you. I was looking into getting a frame hitch for my car. They're pricey, to say the least. I noticed in one of your back postings that you have a U-Haul hitch. I'm considering one. What's the quality like on them?

Mine is actually a Draw-Tite. It's a nice piece.
U-haul must've slapped their sticker on it when they installed it back in the day.
I haven't used it for trailering anything, but as far as tightening up the back of the car goes it's worth it's weight in gold...

Oh, so it is a Draw-Tite hitch. Yeah, they're a nicely made piece. The U-Haul hitch appears kinda clunky, but I guess it does what it's meant to do.

Thanks man!

Rear doors are coming along.
Had to throw a little more filler on a couple spots.
There's a few other low spots left, but the next coats of primer should take care of them.
I'll shoot them tomorrow and see how they look.

I haven't decided on what to do for the lower portion of the doors, as well as the rest of the panels.
It had a pretty good layer of chip guard on it from the factory.
Not sure if I want to throw that stuff back on, or cheat and use some of that clear 3M film.
I'll definitely use chip guard on the rockers, but I think that the vinyl on the fenders, doors and 1/4's could might be a decent short cut.
We'll see... I'll be putting some mud flaps on the car too to help keep things tidy, plus they help complete the 'look'... lol

Hit the rear doors with 3 more coats of surfacer.
I'll block them out again next week and get them back on the car.

Started sanding on the roof in the meantime.
The portion I got done looks pretty good, so hopefully I can stick a fork in it soon...
