I'm from Minnesota, it's like Hoser Adjacent :) I've seen more hockey sticks in gun racks in 80's pickups than any actual firearms and the biggest building in town after walmart, the factories and community college pool was the ice arena.

Yeah, the intent is to be able to use a gear wrench or similar but this uses an 1 1/2" nut and I can't find that large of a gear wrench. So far I have been using a channel lock but once it's in the car I need to find an actual wrench. Preferrably 1 1/8 on one side and 1 1/2" on the other so i can adjust the jamb nuts on my UCA heims also with the same wrench.

Adjusting in the car would be sweat and work on any other G body but since the trunk is do damn small on this I can't get back there to do anything.

LOL @ hockey sticks in gun racks. That's brilliant... just don't do it around here unless you want to be criminally charged for impersonating someone from the Canadian Army.

I am pretty sure you can just make a spanner to do the job - you're a pretty handy Hoser.

Try making a wrench for it out of 1/4" steel plate... that should fit easily between the coils...
I can't remember if you got your A/C working, but I hope you do, the forecast this weekend looks brutal.
I'm such an idiot for pulling it out of my wagon lol I regret it more every year

Nope, this turd is the only thing I own without working AC. It was on the list this summer to install but I didn't get there. I gotta do some wacky belt routing stuff I wasn't prepared for.

If this doesn't get done for some reason I'll take the wagon and honestly not be that disappointed. Total AC luxury.

Got diff, installed, had the factory shims backwards, flipped them and got the backlash to .008", good enough!

Slid axles in and had a lot of endplay, spec is .008-.025" and I had .070, turns out it's a stackup issue since the moser C clip groove is .015 wider than the stock ones, the center pin on the yukon diff is .035" smaller, which ends up adding up to enough to cause extra endplay.

Raided the Menards snap ring cabinet and ended up finding some .050" thick 1.5" OD snap rings that fit, I just bent them a tad on my vise to shape and test fit, they knocked endplay down to like .010" and it's happy now I think.

Axle goes in tomorrow I hope.

Thankfully menards was open til 10 and I got there at 9:55

Bam! Rear is back in the car. Bled the brakes (still have a bit more to do) but the calipers clear the shocks and frame, tires fit (actually a bit farther in than I thought they would be but its OK) and everything seems good. Rear is quiet and the 70-72mph decel shake the old rear had is gone. The old tires must have been out of balance.

I like the new wheels! I gotta find my other center caps and I'm good!

Yup, took a lot of work but I'm glad I went with these wheels.

Thanks!!

Well I went to the show and autocross 4 times today.

1st time I went way hot and didnt know the course took out some cones
2nd time I cut 5 seconds off and went slow
3rd time I went faster but ran the same time as 2nd but I went off track since my steering wheel slipped out of my hand, need a steering wheel the upholstery isn't falling off!
4th I was doing great but half way through I hit limp mode and it died

Honestly it did good I just need to learn the car more. It understreared a bit but wasn't bad for not super sticky tires and a driver that doesn't know what they are doing.

I need more seat time before I decide what to change, the long lower ball joint, Moog 5660, LS front blazer rear brakes and hollow 3rd gen front and blazer rear bar work well together. Maybe an adjustable proportioning valve? More camber?

I also ran into a aerocoupe SS lq4 t56 blower car so it was really cool to see how the two cars are similar but different.

love the wheels on it, may have to look into a set in the future for the chief. glad the rear is getting sorted out, and you're getting valuable seat time in to fine tune the details. use the patience you've had in the other details in this and the wagon, and you'll have it dialed in in no time flat!

and never realized the rear windows were different than the aerocoupe.... good to know. still kicking myself for not picking the one up at the same auction that I got the chief at. was a bit rusted, and needed a d/s quarter panel and the rear glass was gone, but otherwise complete...

I keep geeking out on old 2+2 nascar photos now.....

Can't decide if I should paint it 2+2 colors or more like a NASCAR but without the stickers. That blue, gold and silver one looks pretty cool.
