Yes, they're both normal and OEM. Check the cracking sealer around the HVAC box, they're often the culprit in mystery water leaks inside the car.

I had a battle with the distributor hold down bolt.

Is this coating on the firewall original or was it applied later on? There is cracking of the sealer at the left side of the HVAC box. What about that ground braid from the middle of the cowl, running behind the trans dip stick and going into the HVAC box seam - normal?

That ground braid attaches to the heater core in the HVAC assembly.

And glad to see there's SOME dirt buildup found on your car(firewall)! ;););) J.K.

I'm blown away at how clean that car is!

Doing his research, looking the cars over really good, not buying the first one you see, all of these paid off. He found one of the cleanest G Bodies I've seen.

'Overhauled' the instrument assy and repair careless previous service attempts. JB Weld comes in handy. Shimmed the foam seat base bun

Nice repair work on the binnacle. Would you care to elaborate on the seat bun shimming? (what you did and why)

I found the seats a bit too soft and saggy. I posted the details of the seat refurb on the Monte Carlo SS forum. Basically I shimmed the bolsters with slit 1/2" pipe insulation placed on the metal frame rails and placed carpet remnant under the base and adjusted the wire basket(shortened the wires) for higher tension.

...and I lubed the trip meter reset assy. The orange bevelled slider thing, black plastic plunger and the number shaft.

Next is the console lid. The plastic under the pad is cracked in several places.

and the pad itself does not fit nicely..stay tuned.
