Yes, stock housing with a 3.42 posi and Moser 28 spline axles.

There used to be a place call Tom's Kick *ss axles, but, not sure if it's still around that offered 28 spline axles.

The spot where the 26 spline axles necks down is normally where they fail/break.

The only issue I had was after 4 years of drag race abuse my stock, used Camaro posi broke...just replaced it with another used one...
were the moser 28 splines for a 8.5 nit seeing them for 7.5 guessing those will fit

Yes, it is 8.5 28 spline axles.

how about a 71 442 rear axle?
a '71 442 rear axle will bolt in just like a any other 10 or 12 bolt from a gm "A" body car from 64-72. you will need special upper control arms. a '71 442 axle has bolt in axles, no "c" clips. and i believe the "71 was the first year for the 8.5" ring gear, in place of the 8.2" that chevy and pontiac were running.

poppajohn - I went one step further and used JY 2WD 28 spline S10 axles with a Torsen from '00 Camaro. I had to add 1/4" spacers to the axle flange because the S10 axles were a minor bit longer. Used that setup for a full season of abuse at 375 WHP (estinate 475-500 crank HP.) Worked like a champ and the spare housing with the complete setup is in my basement in case I break the current rear. The Torsen carrier will take a ton of abuse, just be ready to drive when it goes from spinning to hooking up.

The 8.5 GN/442 housing is identical to a 7.5 outside of the pumpkin. Had not heard about the grinding issue. I am about to try the Torsen swap, so I will let you know what I find trying to use the old GN axles in my 7.5.

I did not have to grind on the ones I did.
