Well I got an email from American Racing directly and they say that my car is too heavy for the rims...sooooooo that sucks! 👎👎

What? I find that hard to believe. I think that's news to a lot of muscle car guys, I've seen many pictures of A/F/G/B body muscle cars with the same or similar rims. I would expect a company like American Racing to know who their market is and build a product to meet the needs of those who will buy their products.
Exactly! I saw dozens of pictures of cars on google that weigh a ton and they frequently have those rims on them. All of them old school muscle cars. What are these rims built for then? A damn civic??
I might go with these instead. They are a little more money but have a much higher load rating and look almost the same. Ridler 675
do they think you are mounting the car on one wheel?....On their website each of those wheels is rated at 1580 lbs. I have the 17" Torque Thrust II on my GP which are also rated at 1580 lbs and I drive my car sideways sometimes so I'm not too gentle on it. The wheels have not broken yet

The markings that are required by DOT are as follows;
- Wheel Load – this is the maximum load that the wheel is designed to carry. The wheel load is determined by taking 50% of the heaviest axle rating of the vehicle (GAWR – gross axle weight rating). Example; if your heaviest axle weight rating is 3000 lbs then your wheel load requirement would be 1500 lbs.
for sh*ts and giggles lets say the front of the G body is 2,000 so you would need rims rated at 1,000...The AR is 1,580
This is the biggest crock of crap I've heard in a minute. I don't even like the wheels, but I'd be arguing the hell out of it. Get an email address and bombard it with pictures of A & G body cars wearing the wheels.
My bet is the tech guy is new and doesn't know you have to divide by two.

The 15x7 for your car, specifically, is VN5155761. Load 1580. Around $140 per.
Wheel Load is calculated by taking 50% of the heaviest axle (Front - Engine weight, Duh?)
My '86 weighs in at 3300 and a few pounds.. So, lets say the engine/trans/steering components/etc/etc/etc is a cool 1000lb of that (Its not, its more around 700. Add 300 for easier calculation.. And. I'd say a ballpark of Front equaling 1k more than rear acceptable... but.. thats just me.)
2300 left - divided by 2 axles - 1150.
Plus 1000 for the front - 2150
2150 divided by 2 wheels taking that load - 1075 per wheel.
Now, if you use their website and put in your 1982 GP, and let it show you "the wheels for your car": You find something interesting.
16" with a load rating of 1400 is perfectly acceptable....but the ones you asked for at 1580 are not? Oooooh, wait, the 16" Rims are $227 each... huh... imagine that
A 1987 Cadillac Brougham De'Elegance - which is the only example I can readily find at my fingertips - has a Front GAWR of 2537, requiring 1600 Load Rims.
I GUARANTEE you the Caddy weighs more than your GP as its over 5k Lb. I Know my 86 weighs 3300 (plus a few pounds) because that's what the scale I put it on said, and your 82 Should be just like my 86 weight-wise.
They just have numbers wonky somewhere, and they're too stupid to verify the validity of what they're reading on a screen.
Honestly, yeah, I would tell them to piss off and give you the 15" or you will go elsewhere with your business.

Yep, I have them on my 68 Cougar which I gotta believe is even heavier than any G-Body. Been on there 17 years. Only issue I ever had was when a brake caliper started dragging and the extra heat caused the screws in the center cap to back out and I almost lost it. But I stopped when I heard the clicking noise of it dangling by only a few threads on the only screw that was hanging on for deal life.
Hardly the rim's fault.
