I did some work on a former neighbor guy's salmon colored Ford Probe. When he came to pick it up he went into this long story about how he was so fortunate to have such a historically special car. According to him, he got it from a race team that would buy a new Probe every year, gut it, convert it to RWD/V8, install a full cage, upgrade all the suspension, paint it and race it for just one season. Then, at the end of the season they would undo everything and return it back to showroom stock. Then trade it in on a new one and start the cycle all over again.
I don't know if someone actually told him that and he believed it, or he made it up himself and was trying to impress me with his car prowess so I wasn't sure whether to feel sorry for him or be offended. Either way -- he's a dumbass.
The habitual Liar...yeah...I had a "friend" in highschool that was like that....always braggin about the girls he was dating or sleeping with....till they showed up and acted like they'd never met him before.
As I used to say...."he'd rather climb a tree and tell a lie, than stand on the ground and tell the truth"....

Bump!

Its cold outside, and my joints hurt.

I hate it when I have to go back through 17 pages to make sure I'm not about to complain about something I already complained about  .

this thread is for old men so don't worry, none of us would remember...

I watched Sink the Bismark and The Enemy Below last nite, both are in b & w and both great movies that I have seen before but thanks to old age I have forgotten enough of those movies that they were great entertainment... 🙂

Damnit, I had to go back and look too, yes I already mentioned it, but that was when I was at my old job. New job, same scenario.

Why is it acceptable to show up late for work on a regular basis? I had a boss long ago, that lectured a coworker of mine who showed up 5 minutes late once, the coworker whined what's 5 minutes? My boss's reply, what's 5 minutes when I'm holding your head under water? Today, that boss would get turned in for being abusive, or being a bully (the days where one needed thick skin to survive are gone). Maybe I would be a dick of a boss (wait, no maybe about it), but, in my mind if work starts at 8 am, you should be at work at 7:45, that way by the time 8 am rolls around (after you've, hung your coat, put your lunch away, grabbed a coffee, had your morning smoke, dropped the am duece, told your boss how awesome it was, had another smoke, and timed in) you are ready to work. I also find it annoying when people show up at 7:58. (end rant) When I first started working, people were fired for being late, now, even authority shows up to work late :blam: .

Some of these may have been mentioned... but... oh well, they're my peeves.

- "
I fixed my disk breaks
"... No, its "DISC" taken from the Greek word "Discus": a flat & round object...and the other word is "BRAKES"... to "break" means to make it so it doesn't function anymore....ie "You Broke It"
- "
Big Block Pontiac V8
" all Pontiac V8's pretty much identical externally, with a slight variance in deck height for the 265 & 301 engines.
-
"I had a Chevelle SS, not a Malibu
".... From '64 to '77.... Every "MALIBU" was a Chevelle because "Malibu" was a Chevelle trim level until 1978, when some idiot at Chevy killed the Chevelle nameplate.
-
"I have a Trans Am S/E because my Trans Am is Black and Gold painted."
No, just because your Trans Am is Black and Gold, (or simply has a Hood Decal) doesn't make it a "Trans Am S/E" . Trans Am S/E's were Pontiac's Top of the Line Trans Am, from '76-84... Then returned as the GTA Trans Ams from '87-'92. They had a special RPO designation: Y82 Limited Edition, Y81 Non-Ttop Special Edition, Y84 Ttop Special Edition, and all featured special details and pieces that other regular Trans Ams did not come with... all '82-84 Trans Am S/E's were "Recaro Edition T/A's"... and if your "82-'86 3rd Gen Bird has Recaro Seats, it doesn't make it a "Recaro T/A" aka Trans Am S/E... either its an '83 Daytona 500 Pace Replica, '84 15th Anniversary Trans Am, an '82-'84 MSE Trans Am with Special Order Recaro Seats, or an '85/'86 Firebird S/E or Trans Am ordered with the Recaro Seat Option.

My -insert vehicle- has a 305 HO
".... No, probably not... . The ONLY 305 H.O. was the RPO L69 305... it came out in late 1983 & lasted through the oddball 1988 extra-production run of '88 Monte Carlo SS.... it was only available in one of 3 vehicles spread over a handful of years... GM did NOT put them into anything else...
>Late-'83: Monte Carlo SS 200R4/3:73, & Camaro Z-28's H.O./Trans Am H.O. (included "5.0L H.O." decals) and only available with the T5/3:73... also must have VIN Engine Code "7"
>'84 Monte Carlo SS 200R4/3:73, Camaro Z-28 H.O./Trans Am H.O. (included "5.0L H.O. decals) w/ T5/3:73 or Heavy Duty 700R4/3:42/3:73... all have VIN Engine Code "G" (Not "H")
>'85 Monte Carlo SS 200R4/3:73, Camaro IROC-Z H.O./Trans Am H.O. (included "5.0L H.O." decals) All T5/3:73... 700R4 option Cancelled. VIN "G"
>'86 Monte Carlo SS 200R4/3:73, Camaro Iroc-Z H.O. (74 Built)/Trans Am H.O. (22 Built) All T5/3:73 most built for competition duty in "The Player's Challenge Racing Series"... few were sold to the public and only a handful survived race duty. VIN "G"
>'87 Monte Carlo SS 200R4/3:73 ...VIN "G"
>'88 Monte Carlo SS 200R4/3:73 somewhat rare cars and were built to satisfy the larger-than-expected-demand that was created when GM announced they were killing the RWD G-Body.... VIN "G"

This was a huge problem when I was running a crew at a door shop a few years ago. Everyone was told up front that they were free to do all the things you listed above before they clock in, but when it was time to start they needed to be at their stations and ready to go. Some guys got it and some didn't work there long. Not that big of a deal since we could float guys around the shop and get the work done with or without 1 or 2 guys. Almost everyone was disposable and replaceable. Average crewmember age was probably 24 and most made $10-12/hr.
Now, as a flat-rate tech, it's a different story. If I don't work I don't get paid. There are customers who have made appointments and are waiting on me. I have to be there. We do technically have sick days but in the last 3.5 years that I've been at this shop I've never seen anyone use one. This crew just doesn't slack. Guys routinely come in early, work through lunch breaks and stay late. Rare thing these days. Granted, I'm the youngest (38) by over 10 years. Everyone but the service writer and myself have military backgrounds too. Semper Fi, do or die!

Speaking of nit picking I for some reason hate it when I see 200R4 instead of 200-4R
