Buick 350 into 83 Cutlass - 307 out

I tried to put together a starter from the cores I had in the basement and only succeeded at stabbing myself in the hand with a screwdriver.......

So I went to the parts store and bought a reman starter for like $40, as I should have to begin with.

I found the original V6 power steering setup and installed it. (incidentally I also found the original V6 frame pads...DOH I guess I didnt "need" to weld the 350 frame pads on there!)

I kept the 307 radiator hoses, though I had to "sleeve" the water pump side of the lower hose. The 307 fan shroud works real well but I had to put a 1.5" spacer on the fan to tuck it in.

Non ac Buick alternator bracket with the original V6 alternator (the 307 unit had the post in a bad location for passenger side mount)

Anyhow, the real update is that I started the car today just real quick to see if it would fire. Started right up, and no codes immediately.

I am pleased that the distributor is functioning.

I did have to get creative with the steel fuel pump to carb line - trimmed and shaped most of it then went to a rubber section behind the distributor that goes to the carb.

I still need to fab up the 2.5" Y pipe and stick an O2sensor on there somewhere.

Then I can tune it.

I'll grab some pics soon.

Hopefully the good weather holds on and I can get the ypipe done soon, then break in the new cam and tune.

heres a couple pics

Great job! I did that swap back in '92 to a 81 Grand Prix that had a Buick V6. Everything swapped over! The 231 is a 350 with two cylinders chopped off! That car would lay some serious rubber on the ground! good luck with your project.
And BTW my 350 was out of a '75 Century, it had a HEI. I did the shaft swap and it ran the AC too! it was a customer's car. I got to drive it 3 times. Neck snapping fun is all i can say.

Awesome job, except for the rubber fuel line next to the distributor. Yikes! My Wife's Aunt's car burned up that way. Negative pressure is fine, but not positive pressure. You can get a length of brake/fuel line with fittings on both ends at at most auto parts stores, then bend it up to fit. And yeah, I too love seeing Buick V-8's getting some respect.

Lookin good! I'd lose the fan spacer and put a clutch back in there though. I used one once and never again. It creates drag and makes the car feel like it should be shifting to another gear.....except it never happens!

Thanks, I cant wait to drive it.

I do plan on bending a solid fuel line, but the rubber hose got me started for the time being.

The fan actually has a clutch, on top of the spacer.

I cant get over all the "stuff" on the intake with the CCC system. hoses and wires everywhere. I need to tidy it up a bit

"I do plan on bending a solid fuel line, but the rubber hose got me started for the time being." Whew! Good to hear. I'll never forget that day, she went to park her Duster, put it in reverse, and the rubber fuel line broke, dousing the distributor with fuel. FLAME ON! Burned everything rubber and plastic under the hood, but I fixed it for her. I cringe when I see that rubber line.

Not to hijack the thread......but.......can i simply get a 403 olds or 350 olds and drop it in with all the CCC stock carb and computer from my 307? Would love to bust a sleep look like that as the 307 is SLOOOWW
