There are too many variables in play here to know for sure what is going on. Your timing is still suspect in my opinion. Your carb is another issue altogether but without knowing one system is working fine its hard to tell if the other isnt. In my opinion if your gonna go for new buy that 75 dollar carb, if it is new, never used then it is a deal, you shouldnt be hesitating on that. As far as reverse, well it sounds like reverse is out. If those guys told ya the trans was good and its not then ya you got ripped off on that but the bigger picture is you got a lot of stuff for 200 bucks and they put it in so I wouldnt be down on it for that price. You need to find someone local that can help you. Any car clubs in your area? Any places where people go and cruise, or cruise ins in your area, go make a friend at one of these places. Its all stuff that takes a while to learn, I dunno about you but I learn best by watching an example then doing it myself with repetition, over time this stuff will be so easy for ya. I cannot wait until you get it all worked out, your gonna love your car again.

Longroof79 said:Mark,
I'm guessing the base gasket. It probably had a nice vacuum leak. I suppose any fuel residuals could've leaked out of there.
Although the horn gasket would've made more sense as far as a fuel leak is concerned.
It's hard to diagnose anything not being there. I'd get an estimate from a good carb builder to rebuild the Q-jet. I wouldn't gamble on a junkyard carb to run right straightaway... unless you were going to have it rebuilt or gone over anyway.
David, are saying that the car runs better now?
