The more hot rod stuff you leave in the box, the better off you will be. Do or have done a QUALITY rebuild- not a hurry up job & you will be better off. Get the Doug Roe book on Rochester carbs, and combined with the rebuild kit follow it to the letter. Close enough isn't - don't be in a hurry,
looks like you have multiple problems that dictate a good to spec rebuild.

This is why we recommended our resident carb refurbisher, Everyday Performance. Has good feedback. It's not a generic rebuild and he can fix a lot of the issues generally found on Qjets. He'll even put in some ethanol compatible parts in it. However flavor you like your Qjet.

Heck, it may be just some loose carb hold down screws and mounting bolts. OP never said if he tried to do anything to it or what kind of problems it was showing.

I just went through this earlier..............and I had a hard time swallowing $325 for a rebuild on my QJet but low and behold......IT IS THE BEST ADVICE
I followed. I even asked for a high altitude tweak since I live above 5000 feet and when the carb came back, I bolted it on and after priming,
VOILA..............engine choke was set......idle was perfect....no fuel leaks, throttle kick down opens the secondaries...........

Previously I only had this luck WITH Edelbrocks...............but here it is.............and all my linkage hooked up..........so I didn't need to try to make
the Edelbrock match. My Olds has an EGR casting in the intake which (thankfully) prevented me from adding the Edelbrock which would
have necessitated adding carb spacers........and then that costs more and would it fix or create more issues?

I actually called Everyday Performance and THANKED him for doing such a great job...........that ladies and gentlemen is how we keep excellent
relations with people who are willing to do the repairs we either can't do or want to do. A new Edelbrock and associated parts ran me over
$400 through Jegs...........great deal..............but $325 was an even better deal................when push comes to shove........my .02...

A new carb might be the best route

Performance wise you're only going to get so much out of a 305 (5.0L) and believe it or not most of the 305s I've seen have run better with a 2 BBL around 500 CFM, bigger isn't always better

run better with a 2 barrel
I concur. I have had two 301's that DEMANDED a two barrel Dual-Jet. Crappy rear gears cause this but unless you change gears it doesn't pay to fight it.

My dad had a '78 Firdturd (that's the nice name for it) that we put a 267 with a 2GV off a 283 that made it run way better than with the Dualjet that was on it when it was in my cousins car. "Economy " engines run better with 2 holes instead of 4 it seems like.

The 2G's were great carbs. I had a '72 Catalina with a 400 and it used a huge 2G. Ran better than a Q-jet moving that land yacht. I think '78 was the last year for them as they weren't emissions friendly.

I ran (600 CFM) Edelbrock 1406s for years (when I lived outside emissions land). There are way fewer rod/jet combos than Holley, but you can changed them without dumping gas all over the place because the top lifts off rather than taking the fowls off each end. The 750 CFM version I have heard are nowhere near as good as the 600s. I ran a #7 rod/jet combo at altitude and it ran better than the #10. The main problem with abandoning the Q ship is that the Edelbrock is a square bore and the linkage connections require several adapters. They aren't cheap new. By the time you pay to swap it all over, I'd second AZmusclecar, and stay with your QJ. Have a pro do it for you - not cheap to fix and a mystical to tune (I don't even know where you get the parts).
