Yup, I don't know why they make all those adapter fittings to go from the M14 o-ring port to whatever pipe thread the factory G body style 80's sensors are, especially when the stock LS one works.

I assume nobody ever thought to just check the ohm readings of the 99-02 sensor and compare it to the ohm data GM used from the 60's on. Surprise, GM was smart and kept it the same.....

Seriously, right? They standardized their wire colour coding too. For all the dumb things GM did on the corporate-side, maintaining certain engineering standards was pretty awesome - hence the ability to integrate so many parts from multiple platforms over decades worth of products with just a little creativity.

So I finally finished this monstrosity off. I added two spare 20A relays, and two spare battery circuits (10A and 20A) Because there is nothing worse than needing a fused underhood circuit or relay and not being able to find one.

I want a horn: Here. Here. And here. You can never find a horn when you're mad.

When does the hurting stop?

First things first. Cut the TCC and MAP sensor connectors off the stock Monte SS harness, and then had to devise a way to get then 1 bar connector to fit the 2 bar MAP sensor. Popped the keyed insert out and ran a 1/4" drill bit through it. Tada!

After that it was just a long bit of misery stripping off dry rotted and dirty plastic corrugated conduit and electrical tape. Obviously this is the time to identify and isolate key circuits (and that crap you need to delete).

More of the same tomorrow... because if I have to suffer, so do you.

Stripped down and cleaned up. What a nightmare - so dirty and greasy. The source truck for this harness must have had some electrical issues (found one "repair" on the tach wire) because it was just caked in grease... which dirt/dust settled into and made some hideous sh*t.

Got that done and then started on the modifications to the harness. At least I don't want to vomit when I touch it now.

I feel your pain. I do it for a living... Here's a project I've been on for a little while now.

GAAAAAAAH!!!! THEY'RE ALL THE SAME COLOR!!!!!
That's the stuff nightmares are made of!

Mike, lanolin hand cleaner is great for cleaning up the insulation. There's not much worse than electrical tape goo stuck to your fingers.

Oh man. This reminds me of wiring my brother's car. Not as fun a bolting on headers or an accessory drive. You're into the engine harness a lot deeper than I got. I'm glad you are showing this part of the build, even if truthfully, I don't enjoy seeing it. It's part of it. It always irks me when the TV shows gloss over the wiring or just build a simple vehicle that doesn't have anything more than lights.

All that metal you took off for weight saving has just been replaced with wire!!!!!!!!!!!
