Wow Jared, I can't believe I got so far behind on this thread. I've been pretty busy lately with moving, work and trying to get things set up so I can do some side work for extra money. You guys have been doing a lot of quality work. The Galaxie is looking great. You guys have been kicking *ss!

So it should be ready for primer in a few more weeks? That's awesome! Keep us posted and I'll try to keep up this time. Lol
Thanks Opie. I'm looking forward to some updates on your new shop and wish you success on the side work.

I expect they will spot prime the bare metal this coming weekend. Dad was already scuff sanding and feather-edging the areas around the repair areas. After they spot prime they will do all of the seam sealing. I'm guessing that will be two weeks from now. After that, they will fill the repair seams with metal to metal and then do the final body work. I'm guessing it will be in final primer in about a month.

Sean and Dad had a good day on the Galaxie. They got it spot primed, got all of the seam sealing done and made two passes with the the metal to metal on all the seams.
Here's the car taped up...

Here is a look at the seams. They did one pass with the metal to metal, sanded it, and then put on another application of it. That's where they left off for the day. They were very pleased with how little filler the repairs are going to take. I wish we had used the flanging approach on the driver's side.

Looks good

Meanwhile, I was back at my house working on a toploader transmission that we bought for the car. We bought this transmission a few years ago to put a gear vendors overdrive in the car. Long story on that one. It hasn't been a good experience. Anyway, the toploader we bought was pretty rare. It was specifically for a 64 Galaxie with a 427. As such it had a much bigger input shaft than the standard four speed. It was also close ratio. The gear vendors conversion requires us to swap the long Galaxie mainshaft for the shorter Mustang mainshaft. This locates the gear vendors unit in the tunnel where it will clear a floor pan brace. So, a few years ago, I tore this transmission down to swap in the shorter main shaft, swap in the smaller input shaft, swap to the gear vendors tailhousing and overhaul it. Here is where we ended up....

Here is a close up look at the difference in the input shaft size....

Long story short we decided that the close ratio transmission is not what we wanted with the taller first gear. In the last month we sourced a wide ratio unit from the Space Coast of Florida. So now I'm in the process of restoring the 427 transmission (HEH-H) to its original configuration and will swap the Mustang mainshaft, our new input shaft, the gear vendors tailhousing and likely a kit into the wide ratio replacement transmission (HEH-G). Here's how far I got. It gives you a good look at the difference in length of the Mustang vs. Galaxie mainshaft.

Nice work your dad and Sean have done. Final filler going to be rage or are yall going to use just the metal to metal? Like the tape up job also! The trans looks like a job. I have never tackled a manual before. I have watched pop put a synchronizer, I think, in his Muncie when I was younger. Keep us posted on the transmission to. Yall keep up the good work!

They will be moving to the Rage Extreme fom here. They really liked the Evercoat Metal to Metal. Better than the USC Allmetal.

The Galaxie looks better every update. It's good that they're not having to use very much filler during this process.

Looks like you're tackling the 4 speed without any trouble. I bet the addition of overdrive will be nice, especially for driving on the interstate. Keep up the good work Jared.

We hope to take Dad and Sean's cars on the power tour next year. It will have to have overdrive to run down the interstate. Yeah, I've already been into this gearbox once so its pretty familiar. I've also overhauled a few Galaxie BW T-10's. Once you done a manual box, it isn't intimidating.

That's what I was thinking. I figured that was one of the main reasons for the overdrive. I hope everything works out and you guys get both cars ready in time. Power Tour will be a blast. What color is the Galaxie gonna be again? I love that blue on your brother's Camaro.
