Dad had a red 62 Impalla, 327 4 speed, 2 door sedan for a short while. Straight bench seat.
That must have been a sweet car. I would have liked to have owned a '62 Chevy. I remember going to the showroom to buy it. Of course, I was a young lad at the time. I wanted my dad to buy a nice 2-dr V-8 car, but the salesman talked him into buying a 4-dr with a 235 straight 6 powerglide. Oh well...I couldn't influence him...
A buddy of mine in later years bought a '62 Impala convertible, 409, dual quad, 4-spd car. ..and yes it was red.
I really liked the sleepers of the day. Belair or Biscayne with a 327 or 409 4-spd, dog dish caps, etc.
I couldn't resist posting the pic of the 409 Biscayne.

It was a nice car. He had it and the 57 Bellaire hardtop at the same time. He didn't have it long. He sold it to put money in his business.

The 62 Chevy, the 57 Chevy and the 61 Starliner were the ones that got away for dad.

I sprayed so much of that stuff back in the day when I read it I could smell the stuff lol it's very shinny but wen left to the elements it's dead in 4 years but on a car like that I'm quite shore it will be properly taken care of. It's going to look really good
Yes, garage kept from here to eternity.

You could comfortably fit at least four teenagers in the trunk to sneak them in the drive in, back in the day. Dad said they did it.

haha, we did that years ago in a 67 Impala, two guys in the trunk. When the drive-in changed to charge for a car instead of the number of people we never told them. After about 3 nites when they were crawling out of the trunk someone in another car told they didn't have to hide in the trunk, they were not amused...😀

That's hilarious. I can imagine how un-amused they were. Lol

I actually had 2 friends ride in the trunk of a 96 Impala SS and they had plenty of room.

Work on the Galaxie continues. Dad is semi-retired so he's been doing some body work this week. Here are a couple of pics. This was earlier this week....

His comment was 'the hand is pretty happy' referring to it feeling pretty smooth to the hand. He sent this next pic earlier this afternoon with the message 'getting smoother'.

He and my brother Sean should be able to make some good progress on it tomorrow.

Meanwhile I've been working on the toploader after work this week. Monday night I finished the clean up and scraping on the case. I also got the needle bearings back in order in the counter shaft and installed a dummy shaft in it to hold them in place. I got the countershaft back in the case with the thrust washers and also got the gear train swapped over to the long shaft.

Tuesday night, with my brother's help, I got the mainshaft and gear train back in the case, then got the shift forks and rails installed. We also got the front bearing support, tailhousing and big input shaft cleaned up. Wednesday night we pressed off the bearing on the input shaft using my new OTC 2"-9" bearing splitter (bad boy). We got the new bearing pressed on the input shaft and a new bearing pressed on the main shaft and got the input shaft installed. It was pretty close at this point...

Thursday night we didn't work on it. I took a partial day of vacation today and got it buttoned up. It went together real nice. Shifts like a dream. It is going to be a really nice gearbox for someone....

Tomorrow morning I will build the crate for it and will likely get it listed for sale online.
