Broken record. Another good day on the Galaxie. Completed the patch behindthe wheel well....

Here is another look at the spot welds. My previous pictures looked pretty dark because the weather was good and the garage doors were up. Hopefully this is a better pic. I really can't say enough good about that spot welder....

We have one more patch to do over the rear bumper to deal with really old collision damage and dad torturing the metal with the body hammer. Some of it is sticking out (high) and some is tinfoil thin. We have some marker on here based on our discussion/planning.....

Here is a pic of our practice patch. We made it from the remains of the patch panel from the driver's side. We wanted to assure ourselves that we could flange all the way around without distorting the shape of the patch. Consider it a preview of next weekend.

Real nice work Jared!
Been involved in many car projects with my Dad and brother, we have actually been accused of being a "Bad influence" on Dad.
I look forward to next weeks installment!

Keep up the good work!
Bob S.

I might have missed it but what tool are you using to do the joggles?
We're using flanging pliers similar to these....

We have a pneumatic tool that flanges/punches holes but the flange it makes is too shallow. It must be for more modern cars with thinner metal.

Thanks Steve. That's very nice of you. It does take some patience but the pliers work really well. The fit up of the patch is the most important part.

Had a good day on the Galaxie yesterday. We knew we wouldn't be working on it today because of Mother's Day so we pushed hard yesterday to finish the last patch. There was old collision damage at the end of the quarter over the bumper. Dad got it pretty straight but he actually hammered through the metal in some places. Some of the metal was just barely thicker than aluminum foil. It was way too thin to weld up. He also had some of it pushed out too far to the point that it was a high. We took a less is more approach as we have with the rest of the repair and only cut away what we had to. Here is a look at what we decided on...

Here's the car cut out, the holes drilled for the sheet metal screws and the holes punched for the plug welds....

Here's what the patch came out of....

I didn't get a picture of the patch fit up before welding but here it is welded in, all the grinding done and dressed with 80 grit DA paper. It turned out well. There was some tin foil metal at the back edge that did a lot of burning up but I overcame it....

The metal work is finished. It's kind of a shame. I feel like we just now are getting good at it. I'm handing it off to Dad and Sean to do the body work. They will prime the rocker, quarter and door jamb. They have quite a bit of seam sealing work. They will work the repair seams with Evercoat metal to metal and then do finish work with the rage extreme. They also have to refinish the inner edges of the rocker, wheelhouse and trunk drop off where we cleaned it up for welding. They have probably four weekends of work but I will be checking in and updating this thread. Dad is happy. He knows it's going to happen and for my brother and I, that's what its all about.

Yes, we are looking for the Galaxie 500 XL logos. I think Dad said 64 were different. I will check with him. You have a good day too Jeff. Thanks!
