Update- he ran out of patience with me and had at it with a hammer and screwdriver. It opened. But he ruined the bezel which I believe is available. No sheet metal damage. I told him to take the spare key and hide it where the Sun don't shine. Thanks for the suggestions!

Mark, whjat about delaying this job so your cousin will get frustrated and figure out how to get it open it. Sorta like throwing a kid in the pool so he'll learn how to swim

Try to find a locksmith with some gray in his hair.These cars are fairly simple. I agree with RegalBegal that way.
