Ya know, when it rains- it pours. Today I was going over to help him deal with this and my AC blower would only work on high. No problemo I'll just go jiggle the resistor block. I go to pull the hood release and it comes off in my hand. So now MY HOOD is stuck closed! JUST SHOOT ME NOW!!!!

 Sorry. Well not really!

If you can't locate one let me know, theres a few in the boneyard here.

This is my emergency hood release - a braided steel wire added to the hood latch ending at the bumper shock where it can be yanked to release the hood.

since you didn't state who your "cousin" was (I'm still kinda new here) or what kind of car he drove, I'm taking a stab in the dark that you are not referring to yourself as asking to unlock the trunk of a wagon would be like saying you can't unlock your convertible even though the top is down and it's starting to rain.... but I digress.....🤔

I did find this link, maybe it will work for you

if you need someone to actually pick the lock, you need to look for lockbreaking enthusiasts. they might actually take this as a challenge and help you out for free.

Well, I got the hood open. I had to grab the cable with vice grips and yank it out far enough to slice the housing with a Dremel. Then I held the housing with the vice grips and yanked the cable with pliers. That popped the hood. What I did for now was similar to what Ed suggested. I yanked the cable into the engine bay and trimmed off some more of the housing. I chopped the dash bracket in half and used it as a cable holder. Then I ran the cable through that with the bare end sticking out and passed it through a hole in the inner fender. I used a bicycle brake cable clamp (bolt with a hole in the middle) to secure the tag end and bolted that to a ring of strap iron now hanging under the fender. Sounds complicated but it isn't. So now I can just reach up under the fender, grab the ring, and yank the cable to open the hood. That will hold me until I have time to fix it better. The blower issue was a burnt blower resistor block- on order. The idiot called and wanted to know if I can come get the trunk open now. I said it's 100 degrees out- call me after Summer ends! :blam:

Update- he ran out of patience with me and had at it with a hammer and screwdriver. It opened. But he ruined the bezel which I believe is available. No sheet metal damage. I told him to take the spare key and hide it where the Sun don't shine. Thanks for the suggestions!
