does the 231 have mechanical advance?

im still hunting the hesitation off idle and thought i would check and make sure the mechanical advance was locked up. pull the rotor and there is no mechanical advance, no weights or anything. seemed like when i revved it up with the timing light on it, it would change timing. wtf? lol

Pretty 81 in the us had mechanical advance, after 81 the ecm did advanced the timing. I don't believe that cars in Canada had ecms until 86.

81 and later would be computer controlled timing advance. Off idle issues usually are having the throttle plates too far closed at idle.

CCC stuff started in 80 though not all 80's had em. Idk how many 80's gbodys had em vs not.

So if you got a CCC distributor then no you don't have any mechanical advance.
