We also see this daily being in the parts business, we have two counter guys who were techs in the past so we constantly get people coming in for free information.

Also we get asked what we think the problem may be so we give our suggestion then the customer goes and does what he wants anyway...

In the internet age, a scanner code merely needs to be punched into the Google machine with the year, make, and model to come up with possible solutions. Now, knowing how all the systems interface with each other helps a bunch. However, you can still "outsmart yourself", like I did chasing a miss and lean bank code on my Series 2 swap, which was really just shrink tube breaking down in the fuel and clogging the filter. BUT, it took a good while to figure it out, and I threw a bunch of possibly unnecessary parts at it doing so.

I have only been active for a short time but the thing I see that is non-value add is condescending responses.

Having said that, I don't think all of it is intentional as it's easy interpret poor shots at humor as such.

Its important to remember that people often have deep rooted connections to their cars on a very personal level and cutting apart people's plan bc it's not something you would do is pretty myopic. It's also easy to forget not everyone has the same deep pockets or resources.

With that said, I'm grateful
Very insightful.
