So I got all the power steering box and pump crap swapped out. Took it for a drive and it's a bit firmer to turn than the old one. The old system could be turned with one finger and the new system not as easy. I welded on some stainless exhaust tips because the exhaust shop had cut them off at an angle. It looked like motorcycle exhaust angle cut so I recut them straight. The tips are fit over the pipe and have a rolled edge. I then focused on the carb. It still smells fat and the plugs are black. I went from a 62 jet to a 59 and put in my 7.5 power valve. I re checked float levels and rechecked my air bleeds with a gauge. What the hell makes a Holley 600 run rich at idle after doing all this? I've always been a Holley guy and have always been able to fine tune them. This is the first one I've had do this. Maybe I need to check the voltage to the HEI. I don't need a big debate/discussion here on Holley vs Edelbrock either

When I see my dad I'll ask him. He's pretty good with Holley's.

Did you adjust your idle mixture screws?

What is your vacuum at idle?

Do you have a stock cam in the engine?

As I said in my post, I re checked them with a gauge. I have a 460 lift cam nothing big. 14-15 on gauge

Are you on the full manifold vacuum port on the carb?

Are you adjusting them with an air cleaner on?

until you put a cam in
I'm almost 500 horse and mine works with a good size cam just had to calibrate it to work, on a Holley is there a transition slot like a qjet that if you have the primary's cracked to much that it could pull fuel from the wrong area/circuit?

No, I'm adjusting on the ported vacuum. Seriously? I don't have an air cleaner on because it's not painted yet.

One thing to remember when jetting Holley's and using their jets is just because the jet number is higher or lower doesn't actually mean the drill size is different as many repeat themselves.
