Headers and crossmember

The header ends about 4 inches shy of the crossmember. It would need an S fitting to aim the pipes under the crossmember. And I'm doing my own exhaust work.

Then get to it. Nothing is ever truly a bolt-on.

Not trying to be an *ss...just wondering how it went from needing an inch of clearance to an s-pipe.Maybe you could take your pipe to an exhaust shop and show them what you need and they could make a couple bends to get you past the crossmember.Have them grind the front of the pipe at an angle and have them weld it to the collector flange in the direction it needs to go and then make the bend to get you through crossmember. You could also pick up a short length of the bendable flex pipe and mock it up for them.I did similar things before I bought a welder.

I installed my Summit crossmember, correct part number. Then I installed the correct part number Flowmaster header on the passenger side. they don't line up. The crossmember has rounded humps and the exhaust will need at least another inch of clearance on the frame side of the hump I've tried sliding, no good. What next ???
Doug,

How do the headers fit the chassis? How did they fit with respect to the control arm mounts and motor mounts? How's the clearance on the starter and the oil filter? Did they slip in from below? Any luck with your crossmember issue?

I put a set of hooker headers on my car I'm lucky I have a welding shop right down the street from my house and I made good friends with the guys and we made my own transmission crossmember to My specs and with the S collectors from Summit everything fit perfectly I have no clearance issues at all

I don't think it's an issue with the crossmember. I sold the crossmember to Doug so when I saw this thread I looked up the Flowmaster headers and there are numerous complaints about the fitment of the headers. I have the check that Doug sent me and if it turns out to be a problem with the crossmember I'll feed the check to my shredder...🙂

Where did you see the complaints about fitment of the headers? I'm interested because I have the same set of headers in the box.

*Edit - I also don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with the crossmember. He's just suffering a compatibility problem.

I'm working out of state till Sunday, so it's all on hold till then. Wiggling the headers in from the bottom is what I did, be patient, it takes a few attempts. Have the car at least 24 inches off the floor. The control arm was closest to the header. Alot of room around my full size starter. They seem to have designed them to fit that way, which is why it probably is 1 inch to close to the frame.
