I swear by Holley and have never had issues with them. I was taught by my Dad when I was young how to build, modify and tune Holleys, so I have had good luck with them. Every Q-jet I have ever gotten has gone in the trash can, Just my experience.

Also in my experience no matter the Carb mfg most people size a Carb wrong for the engine size and usage and thus are un-happy with the actual performance over their perceived performance goals.

So I need crush washers for the part that goes in the hole I have circled? Do I need them for for the pieces of the fuel line that screw into it also?

I think for the most part it depends on the application, any stock or mild builds a properly rebuild quadrajet can work flawlessly and they can be redone to work on higher horsepower engines but once you get into anything that has serious horsepower I would run a Holley style carb (mine is a Quickfuel 1150) at full throttle you are going to need even fuel distribution for the engine which is something you can't get with small primary/large secondary set up.
Also price comes into play if you don't have a q-jet and have to buy one or need to get yours rebuilt by a pro it might be cheaper to buy a Holley.Quickfuel,Demon street carb since the prices on these have dropped quite a bit and there are many styles and cfm ranges to chose from and many come with electric chokes which is a nice option for street/daily cars.

You only need the gaskets/washers for the brass inlet fitting the fuel line that screws into that is a flared end and seals when tightened.

Thanks a lot I can't believe I missed something dumb like that. Its my first time switching out a carb so I guess I just got a little excited and got in a hurry. Thanks again guys

Well I went and got the washers got them on it stopped leaking from there now its leaking where the fuel line screws into the part that was leaking in the first place

If it is all the way tightened and still leaks then you can use teflon tape on the fitting threads to seal it. It won't hurt anything being there and you can do it clean enough that you don't see it.
I always use AN fittings with braided lines on my carbs so there is never any issues with sealing.
The fuel line on the carb in the picture below was only $43 on ebay and was complete other than the gauge. This is for a future sbc project I have coming up.

Wow! That's sick man. Sadly I don't have $43 because I just spent $27 on this Mr gasket fuel line. I guess I'll scrape up some change and try the Teflon tape. If that doesn't work I'm canning the Holley and putting the Edelbrock back on.

i highly recommend cliff ruggles book on the subject. You can also buy the rebuild kit from cliff--he'll customize it with the right parts for your motor.

X2. His book has a ton of info in it. I'm looking forward to rebuilding mine when the time comes because I want to try a few of the performance mods mentioned in that book.

Can I just kill them all and post Fuel injection all the way!....
FYI, I am putting a Holley 2300 Series 350 CFM 2BBL on my 81', I just purchased the Eldebrock 2111 Performer intake for the 229 V6 and will be getting rid of my CCC carb setup. I hate it! I plan on eventually upgrading to the Holley 4BBL 390 CFM at a later date along with an ignition/Distributor upgrade too.
