U have the prob not me I am just firing back mother****er. So lets just call a spade a spadeand be done with this sh*t, U go yer merry way and I will go mine.

pontiac455....your method of changing springs has been used by many but I would never recommend it to anyone who's asking how to replace a coil spring. For someone who has no experience in changing a spring I would suggest the safest route. Your method is the quickest tho especially if working with short springs.

GP,

Theres nothing dangerous about that procedure at all. Its just as dangerous as changing a motor, if ya think its wayyyy tooooooooo dangerous you shouldn't be workin on cars at all. NUFF SAID>

nothing is dangerous if done properly but if the jack slips that spring can be a cause for concern...especially if your installing the spring and your unlucky guy who is trying to line the spring up...we use that method on our circle track car but the springs are much shorter and we are usually in a hurry. I run 660 lbs lowering springs on my GP and when I remove them I use a spring compressor since I'm not in a hurry and it is definitely safer and easier albeit slower.

I have tried the way pontiac455 is saying and it did not work with stock v8 springs. The springs were way too tall for it to come close to working.

"This is the slow part since they don't make a 6" deep socket, run the bottom nut up, it will start to compress the spring.

After it has moved up about an inch or 2, remove the LCA bolts, now slowly lower the nut."

The trick to this is to hold the nut at the bottom with a wrench while turning the top double nutted with an air wrench. The nuts and rod will turn while the nut at the bottom will not. Probably gonna need an extra hand while doing this. Hope this helps.

I guess I'm a rookie as well since on my street car that I'm finally ready to get the frame back under I plan to use my spring compressor to install the front springs. I sure hope Nascar doesn't read this and suspend my pit licence... 😢

Back from the dead....

Since I'm getting read to install my new springs I think I'm going to hit up Home Depot and concoct one of these.

if you don't change spring regularly you can take your springs to a suspension place and they can compress and tie your springs so you can put them in place and cut the tie. Last person I know who did this said it cost him $15. Saves you from buying or making tools you don't really need
