I know the proper way would be to weld it.

I really do not want to pull the dash and everything behind it to get to it at this time.

Believe it or not besides that hole it is solid. I took a hammer and screwdriver to it to check.

I was going to just round it out put a grommet in it and use it to run the aftermarket gauge wires.

Then I was thinking of JB Weld to seal it up.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks!!

I've used Por-Putty to glue in a patch for a antenna hole in my fender. Still holding up after 20 years.

Small patch, clean both surfaces to bare metal, panel bond. Strong and waterproof.

JB Weld is the way to go!
I did a repair on my El Camino that was in the same area and was about the size of a quarter. Cleaned the area extremely well, made a small metal patch from a paint can lid and JB welded it in. For the 16 years I had the El Camino it never leaked or rusted any further.
Just my $.02

I would say either a grommet or a plastic body plug for a temporary fix.
For a more permanent fix I would say clean up the metal and make a small patch for it and normally I would say just use JB Weld but I have been using 3M panel bond lately and am very impressed with its holding power but based on price JB Weld hands down.

Yup, you need the gun and adhesive and you might as well stock up on mixing tips if you are doing small projects

to make the price more bearable think about removing everything behind that nickle size hole so you can take 5 minutes to weld a patch in.......:)

For me the nice thing about the panel bond is the amount of different applications and materials that can be bonded together with excellent holding power.
Fiberglass and plastic to metals for example, works great but is pricey.
