Is anyone else shocked/not shocked or confused about the current G body market and prices

They just might! Like I always say, if you don't like what I'm doing to my car.... money talks! I think it might work out to gain a little respect for the idea/theme. I will be posting a build thread soon to outline it

Damn. 🤔

Where's yours? Sold it, right? Only casually pop in to the forums to watch the drama unfold like a half-witted self-licking ice cream cone? It is nothing I want to be directly associated with any longer; and time is making it more toxic (greater than thou).

There are some real good people that I met and dealt with over the years (still are) - but, there were even more colossal ****tards and their disciples of stupid who made it intolerable. Admittedly, I drank half a cup of the Kool-Aid before I woke up from the trance, closed my wallet, opened my mind, and started to distance myself. It is bad juju... but, still so alluring (like a crazy hot-Ex).

No disrespect to current company, but I kind of see GN/GNX owners as like the Corvette guys of the G-Body world.

The regular Chevy guys roll their eyes and mutter under their breath about the “Corvette guys.” Yeah, maybe GN guys have a little bit of a superiority complex. I can appreciate them for what they are, but I really can’t understand the collector culture that fetishizes cars with two-digit odometer readings, yet a lot of things on the car are crumbling or deteriorating because it’s “original.” I have a lot more respect for a GN that is immaculate, but has 90,000 miles on it.

Has anyone ever noticed how poorly represented Turbo Buicks typically are on this board (given that they may be the most "collectable" of all G-bodies)? Ever considered why that it is?

A lack of focused exclusivity. They have dedicated forums for a reason - just like Rennlist, FerrariChat, and anything else that has a fragile microcosm of the greater automotive experience - to feed their egos.

The coolest thing about this board is the welcomed diversity in interests outside of the G-body.

And now everyone understands why I dumped my Turbo Buick (and residual parts stock) a few years ago for a relative song and ran (!). The vast majority of the established long standing personalities associated with these cars are getting very old and tiresome (self-proclaimed and touted "gooroos") sheeple with limited intellectual flexibility - which is why they are the PERFECT collector car for asshats who want to buy into perceived exclusivity and pander to the egos and pad the pockets of others for "approved parts".

Generally speaking I prefer the regular G-body owner who bought an entry-level car and made it their own through years of hard work and innovation. That includes the dude who gets an old woody wagon and expends a lot of effort/expense having a few components remade/refurbished just to get the car on the road (nothing but love, CaliWagon83).

When is this 4th coffee going to kick in?!

At least it seems those types aren't on this forum. On the FB groups I always get a kick out of the "we" and "us" comments by some TR owners when certain topics come up, like it's an exclusive club. Maybe they got lost on their way to the Corvette group. I'll stop my jabs at some in that crowd, I know it's mixed company here and like those cars like I like pretty much all g-bodies. I will say the TR community seems better now than it was 15-20 years ago.

I will agree, or state, that what makes something collectible is completely up to each person. Cost of something is only a portion. People can and do collect things worth a few dollars.

I will say this, a few of the comments on here are dead on about the GN forums and groups, i own GN"s and an array of oddity "A and G" body cars too. I have respect when it comes to ALL cars, and I think that's what a true car enthusiast is all about, respecting others and their rides, and to me, no ones ride is anymore important or better than another's. The #1 reason i disappeared from the GN websites was for the fact that they are so condescending and disrespectful, that i had enough, and the groups didn't have represent for others, and that doesn't represent who I am, so I left! I have found this group of wonderful people here, and i LOVE seeing all the different cars in the A and G body line up, and if someones ride is important to them, its important to me, and I will respect you and your ride as I would want to have the same reciprocated back to me. I'm here to enjoy, have fun, learn, help and make new friends with the same interest as me, and to see everyone's awesome ride! Have a great day! 🙂
