I estimated over $20K just in parts in the other thread from a few weeks back and I didn't know they were converting to rack/pinion or going with 13" rear brakes. They went with a 9", what's wrong with the explorer brakes everyone uses.

I could spent $20k on a G-Body quite easily, but that would probably include a paint job and a custom interior.

For the particular build they are going with, the Day 1 stuff was almost $15k alone. With that price, you can just add $5k and get a brand new Schwartz chassis with everything assembled for you (brakes/suspension). I'm not sure why you'd pay $8k for a SBC with 500hp. That's the price of an LS3 with everything included down to the pedals from Summit.

I definitely understand buying everything new, but geesh.

It will be a cool car and I like that G Bodies are getting some attention (careful what you wish for). Still, I can't identify with this build. I feel pretty well off but there is no way I could spend that kind of money.

I like the builds here alot better. Proven, budget oriented upgrades like the Jeep or Astro steering shaft, Blazer brakes, Moog springs, etc. I look at myself as a fairly blue collar guy so the big budget builds just don't do much for me.

Some people on this wonderful site are starting to sound like the other muscle car snobs. Junkyards theses days have been purged of the majority of the older makes and models, so buying new aftermarket stuff is pretty much a requirement to stay roadworthy . Either you buy something new with a warranty and be judged for spending the cash that you worked for, or you jerry-rig something to make it work and be judged for the shoddy craftsmanship. Can we just be glad that G-bodies are finally garnering attention from the major aftermarket companies?

I have absolutely no problem with new parts. I have a brand new engine in my car, along with many other new parts. My engine cost less than half of their's.

I just can't afford so I can't relate to a spend $40k-$50k in a week build.

I like the attention a G-body is getting BUT just like all the automotive TV shows I won't be watching. Big builds with unlimited budgets don't interest me, while this forum is my first stop, I spend more time on the H.A.M.B. watching all the creative ways people bring a half rusted cowl into a driving car. To each their own though if that build inspires someone new in cars to try to emulate it or ideas from it for themselves. 👍
