Its not the housing, its the carrier that the gear bolts to that matters. And in the modern world, you can buy thick 3.xx gears to fit a 2.xx carrier. No big deal anymore.

Yeah, I mean 100% drop in. Pull old carrier, ring, pinion out, new seals and what not, and drop "new" stuff in. I know they will either need rebuilt or what have you, but I mean literally drop in and go. No changing axles, or swapping to different size bearings or anything.
Are you looking to swap just a posi carrier into your car? Or a complete housing? Because that changes things completely.
And there is no "drop right in" when a gear change is done. If you are swapping ring and pinion, you need to set up pinion depth with shims betwee the pinion head and bearing for engagement, and lash on the gearset with shims at the bearings. If you are just swapping the carrier and using the old gears, you still need to set up lash with the carrier bearing shims.
At that point, you are saying you are pulling ring and pinions out, just buy a new ring and pinion for the $150 (or cheaper on craigslist) in the ratio you want for the carrier you pick up. You need to set it up the same no matter what.

I suggest you do some reading to see what is involved. Swapping a rear end isn't difficult but it's not like changing wheels on a car.
I think he is hoping to find a junk yard limited slip 7.5 carrier with the ring and pinion in a ratio of his liking and transfer them to the housing in his car. That's why I posted the list of GM vehicles with 7.5/7.625 ring gears and why I brought up the concern of which series carriers/gear ratios would fit his housing. So I think the question is what can he pull out of the yard (vehicle and ratio) and have it fit his housing.

Exactly Texas. I have a series two carrier if I'm correct. 2.29 gears. Would ideally like to find a 3.08 with my Th350 and low end power 350.
I'm actually going to do the same thing really. I have a 79 monte with the 7.5 and 273 gears. There's an 85 S10 in my local junk yard that has a 3 Series carrier. I was told to take everything out of the housing aka the pumpkin. I'm hoping it has 3.42 gears ( some vehicles have a sticker somewhere that might tell you what gear ratio it has). Also make sure it uses the same amount of axel splines you plan on using. And you will have to set pinion depth, lash etc.
