Hello all, been looking at a 1983 442 and cam across this. Seems to be a decent price but still a little rough. kinda want yalls thoughts on the car. Worth the price, to expensive, etc. Of course im in TX and the car is in NY. Thanks for the help.

I hope someone can save it. It's too big a project for me personally at this time in my life. Being that you are in Texas I would hold out for something as close to rust free as you can get.

Looks like it might be a coastal car, explains the surface rust on the hood & trunk, steering wheel. Salty sea water & air is just as bad as road salt.

I can't speak for Virginia, but, here in Georgia we do get rust like that from the sun burning off the paint like the ad claims. I've also parted out cars with that same kind of roof, hood, door rust and trunk rust. I've seen it come from wet tall grass fields growing up and pine straw holding water down.

Coastal rust usually has heavy pitting leading to flaking, the rust equivalent of an acne ridden 16 year old.

Astro roof, rear defog, and power seat. I went back and looked at pics again. This car is not that rusty. Aweful tempting to dip into savings, jump a plane, and drive that sucker home.

He is sending me more pics today. I thought about trying to drive it but thats a long drive lol. He also says he has another dash and 2 perfect doors for it. Just waiting for him to send some pics. I think if i can get it for $3500 or so its probably not a bad buy. But then again could be a bad nightmare. To me the frame rails good solid just a little surface rust.

Zac,
That is a long drive, no doubt. Plus you would have to load the spare doors, decklid, hood, and dash into the car somehow. I agree, $3500. might sweeten the deal a little more.
Again, you have to factor in transportation. Whether or not you're going to attempt to drive it home or have it transported. I would do my homework and figure out the logistics of the deal. Weigh your pros and cons.
Not only from a monetary standpoint, but practicality as well.
I honestly think he's depending on an out of state buyer. I don't think it would appeal to a local buyer up there. So that might be your ace in the hole.

There is very little on that turd that will be useable. It is so sun faded and dry rotted that you will spend a fortune and lose your mind trying to make it presentable.

He knows it's good for a few parts, maybe.

I'd keep looking, even at that price. 👍

Yea id agree Jack. It is a far drive but i do have a trailer and could trailer it back but wouldnt not be cheap. I think im going to pass on this for now. Even at $3500 it will cost $1000 on gas and maybe a hotel and what not going there and coming back. But i agree. i think he is wanting an out of state buyer.

lol i dont think its that bad. Like i said before i dont plan to fully restore it. I kinda like the "rusty" or "ratty" look. Wouldnt have to wory about scratching it or denting it up. Think it would be a fun driver and just enjoy it. Its only orginal once as they say lol. But i think im going to pass on it for now.

plus the rusy/ratty look will match my wagon perfect lol (of course my wagon is just surface rust)
