BUILD THREAD Midlife Crisis Monte Carlo Build

You need to put the bolt down through, otherwise you'll have interference with the clam shell.
Hi, thanks for the info but are you sure on this? I may be missing something but there appears to be plenty of room.

Jinkies, what was I thinking. I recall an issue that I had, perhaps i wasn't using the original clam shells or something.

Looks good - carry on (sorry)

Love the project looking great! I've read the whole thread and maybe I forgot if you mentioned what headers you will be using. If you use the hooker 2241 headers you will need to do some slight trimming of the motor mount. It's super easy to do especially the way your car is right now!!!

Hey thanks! That's one thing on my to do list is headers. Those hooker 2241 look nice but WOW are they expensive (well, for me anyways). I have been researching what people have been using for a BBC/G body swap and while I hope to be able to find a set I am starting to think I might be forced to go with stock manifolds. I will keep looking and hopefully saving up for a set. Getting stalled on exhaust now sucks as the chassis is in the perfect place for them.

They definitely don't give them away but I can say my set that is about 20 yrs old fit amazing!!! Spark plugs access is great. Keep watching for a used set maybe you'll get lucky

I think a lot of people on here use the Hooker A body headers #2455 with only a couple clearance issues and with your current mock up it would be easy to address these issues with room to work. I have used the #2241 a couple times and the fit is great but they are pricey and these might be an affordable alternative and I just bought a set to use for when I make my engine test run stand in the near future.

Hey thanks! I wonder if most of the headers brands that fit the cars under the #2245 fitment have pretty much the same bends or if Hooker are the ones to get.

The Jegs headers are very small IMO with a 1-3/4" primary tubes but if you only have a 454 and don't have any plans for power upgrades they might work.
I ran 2241's on my very first Gbody BBC install which was a 468 and they worked well on that.

Hi all,
I want to say thank you for the headers advice especially 565bbchevy! I was going back and forth on 1" 3/4 or 2" headers. Jegs has a set of their brand 1" 3/4 A-Body for $150 and the 2" Hooker 2455's for $234 but are backordered.

I was looking for more options and found Jegs had a set of 2" for $175. There is no picture and very little information about them so I called. The guy was super nice and said they are basically the same as their 1" 3/4 A-Body ones and if I was not happy with them he would send out a label for me to send them back.

Two days after ordering they arrived. Box didn't fare well but the headers look good.

I am no expert on headers but they look great and to me the 2" tubes look huge.

I started to mock them up and they are really close to fitting. The passenger side has a ton of clearance everywhere except for kissing one spot on the lower control arm frame mount. I thought the TH400 ear was going to be a problem but it's not even close.

The drivers side contacts the engine side mount as I have read that it will unless I used solid mounts.

I downloaded the installation manual for the Hooker 2241 headers and found this which I believe will work.

As for the drivers side and the lower control arm, I can quite tell yet. So the way I see it I have three options. Dent in the tubes where they are making contact. Grind the control arm mounts. Order some 2" J bend pipe and graft them in to get around the lower control arm mounts. I found an older write up on this and I hope I am not posting a link here that is against the rules....
