Still slowly removing patches and panels, everytime I take something off, I reveal something else that needs a fixin. It's like a never ending nightmare of rust. Tacked on some braces in the doors and across the interior to keep things from flexing.

So I finally got my Mig set up with gas, only used it for flux core before. Fabbed up some replacement pieces the best I could. Started on the underside, my welding skills are....amateur..to say the least.

Started with small patches..

Yea..........pretty rough, so I cut it all back out and started again with a larger patch.

Doh!,forgot the part that I had not yet patched. More practice I guess. :blam:

At first I was grinding down the welds to make em pretty, but got kinda worried about burning through so I think ill leave em be. Just gotta be sure to seal em well to prevent moisture from trapping.

Am now working on the cross brace between those 2 patches. Its a tricky one, bends a few different ways.

Finished up the crossbrace, mostly, gonna wait to sit the body on the frame until I drill the body mount holes to make sure they are accurate.

patch near firwall on the underbody

Today I stated making some peices for the front body mount locations

Got the mounts tacked in and cross brace prepped.

Put the body back on the frame so I could line up the #3 mounts on the ends of the crossbrace. Was a total PITA to get it on from the rotisserie, was shy about 6" of clearance length ways to drop it down perfectly. May make some adjustments to it before putting the body back up so as to make it easier next time.

Nice job!, for "limited welding skills" you are picking it up fast. Best way to learn is just do it. Since you have a sandblaster I always blast all the welds after you grind them before you etch prime and seam seal. Couple tips I learned after a decade in a body shop for you and anyone else, sand your patches with 80 grit before you cut them out, drill or bend them, its a lot easier to sand a flat piece of metal. Another thing I always like to do was put a piece of tape over the drain holes in the rockers and pour epoxy sealer in the rockers and rotate the car back and forth on the rot. it coats all the inside of the rockers real well. A can of 3-M weld through zinc primer is a good idea where bare metal patches are used, it does make plug welding a little harder but you will figure it out. just some thoughts for ya, you are doing a heck of a job.

Some good tips, thanks!

I currently am using Rustoliums cold galvanizing compound as a weld thru.

I have never used a real weld thru, so have nothing to compare it too, but it seems to have much of the same issues people have with traditional WT. According to it's directions, it's really meant to be applied to rusted or previously coated surfaces. It doesn't adhere well to clean bare metal, I can scratch it off easily with my fingernail. May have to give the 3m a try, will be down at the local welding supplier sometime this week.

Forgot to drill holes in the the frame at the middle (#3) mount, since I had it boxed it, it wasn't accessible. This turned into quite the task with the body on, would have been easy had I done it a few days ago. The hole saw kit I bought turned out to be junk and i stripped a few teeth within the first few seconds and broke multiple pilot bits. I had only 2" and 2 1/2", the 2 1/2" was too big, so I had to use the 2" then file it about 1/16" bigger to fit the bushing in. What a pain in the *ss!

Got R Did tho, attached the front 4 mounts now, surprisingly the gaps from the frame to the rockers look even and straight on both sides. I was worried it would be horribly misaligned as I didn't add the body braces until after removing all the rusted panels.

I've had multiple hoods, doors and other body parts leaning against the side of the house for years now, this morning my 2 dogs cornered a raccoon behind em.
