My Dodge Truck Project (Cummins Inside)

Good job, your truck is getting less old Dodge with every repair, you know, nothing working as it should😁. That carpet is horrid, exactly why a carpet should be a darker colour. Consider a black carpet to replace it or dye it, if it doesn't come clean enough.

Understood. It may be a project you start on one weekend and finish the next, this time of year. Last one I did this to was the Neon and it took about 24hrs. I jumped over to the original Compound thread and it looks like I did it in August...10 years ago. My, how time flies.

I took out the Zebra's carpet and towed the flatbed trailer to the car wash. Cleaned the trailer first, rolled out the carpet, then wetted it down thoroughly and sprayed the worst spots with a 50/50 of laundry soap and water and let it soak while I got breakfast across the street. Came back later and used the power brush to scrub the darker spots, then multiple passes with the rinse cycle. I tied it down and let it air dry in the sun. Had to prop up the spots with jute backing, but all but the darkest spots were gone. About 14 bucks with breakfast!

We've been hitting lower 60s most days but there has been some cold snaps. Like Jared mentioned, if it isn't the cold it's the humidity that won't let it dry. I might be able to throw it in front of the torpedo heater to speed up the drying. I didn't have that last time I pressure washed a carpet.

A replacement isn't too expensive, I think around $250 with the mass backing. But of I can save $250 I'm gonna do it. The carpet that was in my old F150 had no chance of being salvaged, it was melted and cut and had tar caked in it. This one isn't bad other than the stains. If I replaced it I'd consider doing a vinyl floor although carpet really does look a lot better.

Well I simply can't stand still. I got the carpet pulled. It was actually very easy, only took maybe a half hour. Didn't break anything either.

The floor was a little ugly underneath. Not awful but not as nice as I was hoping. This is all from moisture under the carpet. The underside of the truck looks spotless in this area. So I hammered on all of it with a body hammer and found a few holes. Nothing too scary. A couple small patches and some paint and it'll be fine.

I got some laundry detergent and hot water and scrubbed the carpet again with the drill brush. Immediately I could see dirty water coming out. Then I hooked the pressure washer up to the hot water tap and pressure washed it. It looks a lot better but the stains behind the passenger seat are still there. Not nearly as dark but not gone. The fibers themselves might be stained. I'll see how it looks when it dries.

Still a night and day improvement. Maybe you could pick up a couple used weathertech type mats for cheap and cover the worst of it up?

Supposed to be half decent for the next couple days. Find a way to hang that bish and flip it each day and you should get it mostly dry!

Wow, is it taking on water somewhere?

I looked carefully, I don't see any obvious leaks. It appears to mostly be where the driver and passenger's feet would be. No puddles, just damp. I'll check it with a hose before I put the carpet back in.

Don't worry Jared, i know that rust might be totalled by Texas standards but this is what we consider light rust in PA 😁

It is much better than it was. The water running out of the carpet while I was pressure washing was blackish brown. Husky makes some floor liners that might work nicely.
