Meh, I took my cheap shot at your Ford. We can talk about Novas again, I guess.

I have already been thinking about moving the shocks inward, but I would make my own bar. The car has single leaf drag springs and slapper bars. It is what Doug Demos (Quick Performance) suggested for my Dad. I think that will work just fine on the street. The biggest problem will be traction with the small tires. Down the road I figure I will mini tub it and move the frames inwards. I also would like to stick the fuel cell through the bottom of the trunk to free up some space. Right now there is no trunk. It is full of stuff.Have you thought about a shock inboarding kit and a set of caltracs?

I know you've got a lot to do but it would help a lot!!
I have been putting together a mental list of chassis parts I need for my future X body build. I think a DSE minitub is too much for you but that smith racecraft part would be easy.

I can get you a picture tonight of the setup if you want? Doug and my Dad were good buddies. He helped my dad set up both cars. Doug knows his sh*t, but is a crackhead. If any one would like a picture of the car or see something I have not posted? Just let me know. I have driven this car several times. The wheels do not hop. They just spun at will with the 4:56 gears. The one time it hooked was on cheater slicks aired down. I punched it on a back street. The car went sideways and hooked. Then launched me almost into a tree in a yard. I took the slicks off after that!Maybe slapper bars do work, I just see them and think 1977 and air shocks, fiberglass fender flares and purple hornie headers.
I see a ton of 1st gen f bodies and x bodies straight doing work on 275 drag radials with caltracs hence my question.

That is the plan with shocks at some point. My dad had the guy that fixed the clear coat problem roll the fenders. The guy did not roll the fenders. He cut all but half inch off. Kind of ****ed me now on that.I had a 70 Nova street/strip car, I ran 28x11.5 Hoosier QuickTime pro's. One thing that helped with shock clearance was the slapper bars i ran (comp.engineering i believe) i was able to drill another mounting hole for the shock a little more inboard. In my case it kept the inside of the tires off the shocks. I also rolled the fender lip up really tight.
And yes I have realized my dad was a bigger hack than I.
I follow you. I can see where the Caltracs would be better. They articulate better. Where should the shocks mount? Even though I don't plan to do anything with that part of the car right now I am all ears to suggestions for future upgrades. My main goal right now is to make it streetable and be able to drive 30+ miles. One issue isn’t that the lower shock mount has been moved OUTBOARD which doesn’t help and as usual the slapper bar is too short by not being under the spring eye.
