My thoughts exactly, I really like that many people hate them though, lol, it keeps the price down low for those of us who like them, .

Ive actually had people give me their old Quadrajets! 8) They buy a running car, and snatch off the carb and get a Holley 670 or something.

lol, me too, the quad that's on the jeep is a freebie, it came with 6 or 7 other free parts carbs and a couple rebuildable cores, lol (I felt kinda guilty, so I ended up buying dinner for the dude and his lady, lol). I think I paid something along the lines of $5 for the one that's on the malibu (it was off a caddy 500) which also came with a parts carb (79 350/403 carb) 8) . I've invested hundreds over the years into holleys, edelbrocks, and afbs, only to have my $35 quadrajet (rebuild kit and float) run circles around them, thus turning them into expensive paper weights  , I never should've listened to my friends, hahaha.

On the jeep.....Almost have the secondaries where I want them, I still have a slight lean bog, digging through my rod collection, I found a set that I wanted to try in my malibu, being that the malibu was on the lean side, I'll try those rods out in the jeep, see what happens. The rods I picked out for the malibu made a hell of a difference  .

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

for the bog are you sure it's a lean condition or does the spring load on the air valve on the secondaries need a slight adjustment?

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

Yeah, I'm fairly sure, I spent probably an hour or more on Saturday out on a back road tuning it in, I have it close, I came to this conclusion this morning based on how it acts, vs how my malibu was acting prior to its enrichment rods. I shouldn't have called it a bog I guess, it's more like a lag, if that makes sense. I tried various settings out on the road, different timing settings, different air valve spring tensions, different rods, and different hangers (one change at a time btw, lol). Now that I have a richer, faster set of rods to throw in the mix, mind as well give it a shot and see what happens, I can always go back to what I currently have which works fairly decent. It doesn't fall on its face from Idle to WOT off the line, so it's going toward the right direction (best I can describe it in text, it goes BWWAAH instead of BWAH, ).

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

if you have tried all of that are you sure it's not in the timing or ignition system..

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

It could be timing related? Having no initial spec to go by has been breaking my balls a bit so to speak. I pretty much just pulled a number out of my head and went from there. I started at 11 degrees base, and worked my way upto 15, it seems fairly happy there, no hard starting (starts nice hot or cold), no ping, no backfires or pops. So I'd have to believe I'm at least in the ball park. The rest of the ignition is in good shape though, new wires, old cap, but, not cracked or "tracked" at all, the only thing I'm leary on is the no name module, it's new, but I should know better than to trust it. Actually I tried the module out of the malibu in the jeep (factory GM mod), and it ran like garbage, have no clue why, but runs fine with the aftermarket?

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

Oldsmoletick I usually end up tightening up the air valve spring so the primaries are totally wailing before the secondaries open. That gets me a very smooth seamless transition. Loosening the spring usually gives me the "bog" or delay you speak of. I think many tuners make the mistake of thinking the air valve wants less tension when it really needs more.

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

I agree with Mark on the adjustment. I kept thinking a bog I had was the air valve was opening too late but making it lighter didn't work so I made it heavier than I thought would work but it works great...

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

Thanks guys, I'll be trying that on my lunchbreak today. I threw the other rods in and whoa, now I have an actual bog  . However, if I slowly open the secondaries, and not just mash the gas, it seems ok, I think you guys are right on with me having my air valve set too quick. I'll report back when I make the adjustment, I figure I'll start about 3/4 turn from zero and go from there.

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

Yup, you guys were right, lol, my initial setting of 3/4 past zero worked decent, so I bumped it up to 7/8, that's nice, secondaries are opening up nice and smooth, whether I stab the gas from a stop, or while in motion. Thanks bonne and gp for the tip!

Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t

bonne helped me out when I was having issues with my g-jet so I was just regurgitating what he suggested to me...it's always nice to have a second set of eyes...
