Return everything you bought so far

Sell the rear as it is for 1200

Go get a 9inch or S60 and never ever have to worry again!!!!

he's getting new axles, carrier and c clips so that issue won't be a problem and the op already thought about a 9" in his 1st post of the thread....

"I'm not interested in getting a 9" since I know with the proper parts my 8.5" will be strong enough for what I throw at it. "

Not if you are producing the torque!!!

Which is why I also recommended the S60

GM rears have always been the weakest of the big 3

To dump a ton of cash into them is just silly IMO

New or old a C-clip is a C-clip.

How many "new" items have we seen fail?????

Just run that rear as is or sell it

piece of mind !!!!!!!!!!!

C clips don't usually fail, it is usually the axle that breaks at the end between the c clip and end of axle. The op is getting 30 spline upgraded axles so there will be no problem with the axles. On our low end G body circle track cars we welded the side gears with the pinion gears in the 7.5 cause we could not use a posi or spool and we never had a c clip fail, the right side axle would break on the edge of the axle bearing due to the constant stress in the corners and the offset of the wheel

I would get a Winters before a 9".......we used the heavy 9" in our sportsman in our circle track cars but used the Winters in our Pro Late Model. Lighter but stronger than a 9" and you can fit it on any application with bolt on brackets and you don't have to drag around heavy 3rd member is you need to do a gear change.

Next piece to the puzzle showed up today. Now to determine if the diff cover bolts are SAE or metric so I can customize some. Stupid bolts in rearend now don't have markings on the heads, so gonna have to pull one it looks like.
