^Great recipe. You can also put those heads, cam, speings, retainers, rockers, intake, etc in your mechanical fuel pump block if you want to retrofit it to a roller cam. If you want to stay flat tappet, there are plenty of good cams. My crate engine is rated at 350HP/400 ft. lbs. It is the old style 2 puece rear main, mechanical fuel pump, flat tappet block. It has Vortec heads and a mild performance cam 218/218 .458/.458 on a 110 LSA .

so what im hearing is basically keep the stocker stock and spend my money elsewhere.i dont plan on building it up really the doors are all rusted and the body is kinda rough...i got it for free though and plan on using it simply for a hauling vehicle.anyway thanks for the input guys think i'll just leave it be before i start on it and end up having a ridiculous engine in a turd lol

You could slap in a cam and find some closed chamber heads that have option holes for accessories
...like say some -041 or -186.

64cc heads will perk it up. If you have never put a cam in a G-body with the engine in place....I don't recommend the experience.

this sounds more up my alley, what years should i be looking at to find them?about all the junkyards have around here if im lucky is 80's models camaros, there is a caprice with a police package on it might have to check that out...as for the cam yeah its a fun process while still in the vehicle but ive done it quite a few times, lucky for me the ac stuff has already been removed so just have to yank the radiator and i have the clearance id need.speaking of ive never really put much thought into it but would anyone say the radiator would cool better with the a/c condenser in place or without?on one hand id think it would act as an obstruction to incoming air but on the other if its clean and the blades are free it may act as a booster for all i know.

The only thing at a junkyard with small chambers will be 1972 and earlier or, Vortec, or a 305...with 58cc chambers....makes for compression but has poor flow and small valves.
