Our 79 Monte Carlo- Pro Touring Project

Greetings Ramey & all; NICE parts. Have you decided on a cam yet or did I miss that post? And what compression will result from all those fine parts working as a team? I have a 406 " SBC with some 1996 AFR 190 runnier heads that have been ported out to 200 cc's & the low end torque is SERIOUS! And you will have more compression &18 more inches. Could I ask you to take a picture of the drain back holes at the ends of your AFR heads. The reason I ask is that use to be the weak design area of Air- Flows product, very small! But you also have to keep in perspective that many of the engines that these heads go on have lifter galley resistors. I didn't want to restrict oil to my lifters so I went with Smith Brothers reduced oil hole push rods. That helped a lot, so please keep that issue in mind when building your engine. I think that over the years they (AFR) have increased the return hole diameter. Back to cams, consider the Comp 4 pattern Hyd lifter cam. The technology - engineering - development far exceeds any single or dual pattern cam available. Mid range gain is Serious with these cams. So keep an eye out for too much oil up in the valve covers & GOOD luck wish I could help, Ole' Bob.

Always in the mood for a Green Machine update!! Having ridden in that beast at Carlisle, I've grown quite fond of her. You guys make a t-shirt of her yet?

Have you considered a rear frame rail brace to tie the back end together?
Scot W at GNS Performance has these brackets available. Due to the stellar quality of factory tolerances in the day, you'll need to bolt these on and measure up and weld in some square bar stock to suit your frames unique dimensions. Powder coat the finished product and you're good to go.
I've got this installed on my G Body and feel it helps a lot.

G-Body Rear Frame Brace Brackets

The new rear frame brace kit is designed to stiffen the rear frame ends
considerably over the stock frame. This bracket kit allows you to bolt each bracket onto each rear frame end then you are required to make your own cross bar to fit your specific length (as each frame will have different measurements). Once your cross bar is measured and cut to length it can be "Tack Welded" in place then removed and finished and coated how you like. Fits 78-88 G-body

$95.95

Wouldn't that push the bumper out further since they go between the chassis and the bumper shock mount?

It does Turna, but only about an 1/8". Barely noticeable

Maybe on a chrome bumper it wouldn't be noticeable, but what about a rubber bumper like on a Monte?

I think a better design would have been to make it with "ends" on it similar like UMI's shock tower brace.

Then bolt it to the outer side of the bumper shock.

No t-shirt yet but that's a good idea. We'll be at GM (Chevrolet?!) Carlisle doing rides again this year. It's crazy how fast the trusty ol' Green Machine is getting...

It was plenty fast a few years ago when I got a chance to sit in the passenger seat. Guess I'll need an AED and a buddy to restart my heart this year when I go 😱
