OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLES

It's always about the $$$. Price is paramount if everything else was equal. It always will come down to supply and demand. You could have the best whatever it is, but unless anyone wants it, you couldn't give it away. Value is another part of that. If you have to pay a little more to do it once instead of paying way more to do it several times, when is it a value? If I were flipping cars, I'd use whatever was the cheapest door handle I could find. It's always about the $$$. If I'm restoring a car for me, then I'm going to use GM parts where I can.

Quality is simply that, whatever it is, does exactly what it says it will do. The longer it does what it says it will do, the higher quality it is. And the level of quality is always going to be subjective.

China-made parts and tools aren't quite as crappy as they once were. But there's been quite a bit of workers grumbling for higher wages in China as well, so those cheap parts may be getting more expensive over time. We shall see.

And as PBGBodyFan says, GM had some miscues on getting quality parts made on occasion. Some of the aftermarket parts have tried to correct some of those miscues by designing things a little better. But again, that's not the norm. But I still prefer GM door handles to Chinesium every single day of the week.

My dad told me something once a long time ago, that you should never just settle for anything. Buy the best quality you can afford and you won't have any regrets. A price range for every budget.

Thanks for all the help. We got it handled. And BOXCARS I don`t think all of my fellow Americans delight in gouging their fellow citizens.

Well, open your eyes. ITZ called greed. Cognitive dissonance only goes so far.

I've purchased new handles, in black, for my GN, and chrome for my El Camino, 10 years ago, from ebay, I'm quite sure they were made in China. I've had absolutely no issues with them. I just removed one of the doors from my El Camino to refinish it, had some minor paint lifting, and just removed the door handle. All the plating/anodizing inside the door and out was intact. The chinese stuff doesn't suck. The people who filled their pockets by sending the bulk of North American manufacturing to China and Mexico SUCK!

I've had both HELP and Doorman handles and they either broke or the chrome pitted and the pot metal underneath started poking out. You must've got a good set but that isn't common place.

What about getting some from a car in a local wrecking yard, I think there must be a few GM brands that used the same door handle....

I don't care about who's greedy or not or why they are greedy, that is their problem and if anyone thinks that character flaw enhances their life they are mistaken......

It is apathy and indifference by good people that has enabled and empowered this sort of bad conduct.
