Paint or wheels?

The paint is the very last thing being done to my car. I want everything to be finished before there is a nice paint job on it

I thought about doing that as well. Then changed my mind. Then changed it again......and then yet again. :?

I just don't want to have a nice set of expensive wheels on my car and not have a nice paint job to finish off the look. My paint is not the worst, but it's far from the best. It sure would make the paint look ALOT better with wheels though.

Going to take my car to a local body shop this on Saturday morning to get it looked at.

Well, after calling around to several different body shops I have got some different estimates.

One body shop said they would do a $1200 paint job and it would be "almost" show room. Another said that he would take everything off and paint it for $2500. Another said he would have to look at it before he gives an estimate.

Haven't had the time to take it to have it looked at yet but, what do I need to ask before I hand a guy the money? What are the main questions I need to ask to make sure I'm not getting ripped off?

Don't trust a bodyshop nor employees. Trust only their history, find locals with feedback and reccomendations. Local forums help, ask around at neighbourhood car shows ect. Get details of what exactly was done, dents, rust, door jambs, under hood ect. How much did it cost and how long has it lasted with what, if any, problems. Take time with research, no rush, cars only getting classic by the day.

Do what he said but also the cars there at the shop will tell you everything you wanna know. For instance the shop i got my estimated quoted me $2400 thats takin it apart ,fixin 2 palm size rust holes with steel(he said he doesnt use bondo 😀 ), a 2 stage paint (he let me know its not the best paint that which would put the job at $6000 plus)but a good paint brand, after he cuts and buffs the paint plus i get a 3 year warrenty against fadeing. He then put the qoute on paper and proceeded to show me a 64 gto painted the darkest wettest navy blue i had ever seen and a orange and white racing striped 69 camaro. He drives a gt mustang as his daily with a 6 year old silver paint job that looked new to me.I as sold.

Well, I was recommended to go see this guy at one of my local shops named Hoss. I have talked to several people that said he does great work at a VERY good price. He quoted me over the phone without seeing the car at $1200 after I told him what kind of condition the car with in with hardly any rust at all or not much body work needed at all. Like I said, I was told he does great work.

sounds like you figured it out, but it was noted from before-- most people dont finish projects etc.. those that do sell the project are guaranteed to get more $$$ for a freshly painted, straight bodied car than a bucket with $2000 rims..

not to say anything negative about those that go rims first but its not the rims that make these cars special.. you can put rims on anything.. when i see a car w/expensive rims and the rest of the car looks like a POS, that guy is automatically discredited.. the rims should be the last thing on the list

Getting her painted first, more than likely within the next month. Then I'm going with interior work. Want some bucket seats and new some fresh new carpet down in her. Then, after the winter season is over I will be putting the wheels on her.
