How much hp can you gain on a set of vortec heads by port and polishing them ?

That will definitely vary as to how much you open the ports, how you open the ports etc. On my vortec heads I just gasket matched them to the intake. I thought about opening up the exhaust side a little bit, but the water jackets are very close on the vortec heads. If you have the time to gasket match id definitely do that, it's not gonna hurt anything. Just make sure you take your time, wear safety glasses and stay away from the valve guides!

The intakes are very good as they are. Just a little cleaning up on the rough edges on the intake side. On the exhaust side I like to open up the short side and a some help on the top. It looks easy to open up the exhaust to match the header gaskets BUT if you don't do anything to the top and bottom of the port it will not help much. I have done 20+ sets and all are better performers.
