Thanks. I plan on a 28 spline out of summit or jegs, cause I don't won't any problems from rims. Thanks to everyone for the assistance. pics coming soon

The 7.5 refers to the diameter in inches of the ring gear. That's how GM classifies their rears along with the number of bolts.

No, thats how Chevy does it. Oldsmobile makes a 7.5 inch rear with 12 bolts on the rear cover, and the rear is junk.

That's true. While it may have 12 bolts on the cover, the carrier inside is only 10.

And they're not completely worthless. I'm using one right now in the back of my pickup for extra weight in the snow!

I was refering to the actual ring gear bolts.

Does anyone know the spline count for a G-body axle? Its stock with an open rear diff.

Scavani ... 10 bolt 7.5" ... get parts for this ... unless your G-body is a turbo regal or a 442 ... your car left GM with a 7.5" 10 bolt ... internals from other rears will not fit ... find parts for a 7.5" 10 bolt ... or replace the entire thing with a 8.5" from a turbo Regal or 442 ... hope this is clear

When you say replace with 8.5 you mean the parts of the the 10 bolt. also here is an article I found while gettinf some answers to the posi issue.

NO I mean take the WHOLE rear (drum to drum) from a GN or 442 and replace. Internals will not switch 7.5" to 8.5"
7.5" rearends and 8.5" rearends are BOTH 10 bolts.

although something I DID learn from this that, that F-body carrier will fit, if one uses the 28 spline GN axles. Interesting!

the f body carrier is 7 5/8 and will fit in a 7.5 housing. Not all f body carriers were 28 spline though but if you can find one with 28 splines it's a cheap upgrade. It's not easy to find 28 spline axles though unless you want buy new
