Jcwhitney has a conversion adapter/spacer that allows you to use four normal steel wheels on a normal rear in a dually setup

That sounds like an idea. Though I guess the wheel well openings would need to be enlarged.

On my 86 olds I'm planning the 83 Hurst olds scheme with repop h/o decals. Using cheap paint so it ages

That is what the American Red Bat replica seems to have, original factory size wheel wells and lift springs While the original film car (which was destroyed during filming) and the Australian replica seem to use both lifts and enlarged wheel wells. Sadly it seems JCWhiteney no longer makes the dually adapters.
