We made it home finally. Rolled in about 2am this morning. I was like a kid at Christmas opening all the boxes that came while we were gone. LOL New headers, hopefully they clear stock clamshells (fingers crossed)

and a few other misc items. Vortec intake bolts, valve cover gaskets, Cooper header collector gaskets, and Comp Cams push rods...

Well crap! I'm afraid they were right... Headers hit on the factory clamshells. Now WTH do I do? Didn't really want solid mounts, I'm thinking I might try making my own block side to fit into a factory rubber mount. Should give me all the clearance I need. I think... LOL Unless someone else has a better idea.

Well my new mounts didn't come yet but I did button up the valve train and have some good news. The self aligning aluminum 1.6 full roller rockers I had fit of course, but so did the stock GM stamped steel valve covers! No rubbing or anything! I've rotated the engine a dozen times at least as I was adjusting the valves and again afterwards, I even removed them and looked for witness marks. Nothing! I know they don't look like anything special but I've found many aftermarket covers often cause other issues. Like oil leaks, or even oil burning because they don't have baffling for the pcv system.

Bad news is the headers do NOT fit. They hit the frame! So much for these being for a G body! Not a very happy camper but there isn't much I can do about it except make them fit. Time for the blue tip wrench!
