BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

Donovan another question...
Is it better to cut and buff in small sections like this especially for a guy who has never done it before?

I can read those decals clear as day, Donovan. After the 1500 and 2000 I suppose you could use the car in a pinch rather than a mirror to shave with? 👍

Thanks Mike. Hell, you could probably tweeze your eyebrows in it if you liked!

There’s really no hard and fast rule when it comes to that Tony, it’s all in how you prefer to do it. To me it makes more sense to break down a large panel like a hood or roof into smaller manageable sections.

For example, I’ll take a section from, say, body line to body line on a hood and then cut that in half lengthwise or even in quarters or thirds. Then I’ll concentrate on just that section before moving on to the next. It just helps me to tackle an otherwise large and daunting panel and break it down into several smaller more manageable sections.

To each their own tho.

When I did the header panel yesterday, I split it into quarters, from one edge to the body line, then from that body line to the center peak, and then the same on the other side.

I will say this, if you’re wet sanding, stay with wet sanding until the whole area is done. I wouldn’t flip flop back and forth between sanding an area and then polishing it before wet sanding the next. No missed areas and less wasted effort that way.

That thing is better than show car straight, ive seen cars roll out of full bore restoration shops and not look that good. Amazing job and its nice to see it getting all put back together. This is when all your checking and rechecking of part fitment will pay off as there shouldn't be any surprises.
