BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

YOU! Put the sanding block down, and slowly back away from the car, nice and easy like. Don't make me shoot! I brought my bullet!

Look at that. A 1962 Ford Galaxie right over Barny's left shoulder.

For runs and drips I find this to be the best tool for the job. It doesn’t give around the imperfections like sandpaper does. I’ve saved many jobs over the years that couldn’t have been saved with sandpaper alone.

Thanks for the link and tip, I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for one of those. I stopped by my supplier on the way home tonight and picked these up...

...an intermediate pad and some 1000 grit 6” discs for the DA. I only have 2 spots with actual runs, so I’ve got a run file on order, but these should make levelling out the wide flat surfaces much easier and quicker.

What's he doing??

He found dust in the clear 🤣

All kidding aside, your fixes are my education. Keep up the flawless and relentless attention to detail!

Hutch

Will do, and thanks for the kinds words Hutch! Glad you’re enjoying the build.
🙂

Bummer having to go over the sun roof again, Donovan, hopefully this time it passes your inspection. 👍

I really like the paint treatment on the trunk rocket emblem, looks classy.

Meh, it’s not really so bad Mike. Once it’s been sanded once it doesn’t take very much to go over it again because it’s already flat. I actually polished up a test section last night after posting and it’s waaay better now.

Appreciate the compliment on the rocket logo, thank you.

That meguiers stone is only a little larger than a run file. I prefer it over the file myself. There’s another trick for runs involving finishing putty. I’m not crazy about it because sometimes it swells up the clear. Motivated painters has a video on that technique. We had 2 painters that were at my job that got a lot of runs, in addition to any that I got, so I got really good at removing them myself.
