Somehow I stopped getting notifications from this thread and I ended up over ten pages behind!! Amazing work as usual and the turning light/turn signal/fender look incredible! Carry on fine sir!

Sorry to hear that, but hopefully it was an entertaining 10 page read! Thanks for taking the time to catch up, your compliments are greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

[scratches head...figuring out how to do that with the doors bolted to the car...]

Drive up and down some very steep hills very fast?
😅

Seriously tho, there are a couple things you could try. Pour some in the bottom and try pushing it around with compressed air, you should be able to get fairly adequate coverage with a brush (and the glass out of the way), or there’s always the aerosol option. Not as ideal due to the limited angles you could get with it, but certainly worth exploring.

Ahh, there we go!

Took the door hinges and some other odds n ends into work for bead blasting today (seeing as how the bosses are all out of town and I don’t have to come in on my own time this way).

Much better!! The bead blaster does a really nice job, the stuff comes out almost looking like it’s been tumble polished.
Also did the bolts for the hinges, one less thing to worry about.

Now to get them shot in color at home...

So not a whole lot to report on this week’s progress, just more of the 3 step program you’ve all now undoubtedly seen me do several times before.

Paint, primer, seam sealer and general crud removal, rust converting the deep pits and inaccessible areas, then sanding the converter and fresh epoxy.
Unfortunately I’m at the stage where the work to be done is just slow and time consuming. It sucks, but it is what it is. Just gotta keep plugging away at it.

This week’s surgical patient’s were the front of the rocker, the side of the cowl, and the seam all around the door edge.

Side of the cowl before. Note the undercoating and primer overspray, along with the old cracked seam sealer:
UGLY!!!

Here’s an interesting tidbit for those of you that are unfamiliar with factory AstroRoof cars, the stub end you see sticking out here is a rubber hose. It’s a drain tube that runs up inside the “A” pillar, and is hooked into the outer AstroRoof pan up top. There’s a matching one on the driver’s side:

Any water that makes its way past the outer weatherstrip seal ends up in the outer pan and drains out through these tubes.
You won’t find these or even their holes in a conventional hardtop coupe!

Moving along, this was the front section of the rocker before:

And now, after several nights of stripping, sanding, grinding and treating the rusty areas. A fresh coat of epoxy was applied tonight in the spots to be resealed:
MUCH better!!!

This is the area that had all that old crappy dried out and cracked seam sealer, looks MUCH better now. Thankfully, I didn’t find much more than just surface rust underneath:

The rest of the work was done on the inside of the door, more epoxy in the seam areas all around the edges:

That’s all for now gents, I’ll let the epoxy set up a couple days then get it scuffed up and feather edged in preparation for new seam sealer.

Till then, thanks all!

D.

Hmmh, I stopped getting notices too.

I suspect I need to do something similar on the bottom of my doors and all along the bottom edge both sides. Just surface rust but combined with the crappy repaint they did back in '86 due to all the runs and paint stalactites on the silver from the factory, it looks fine from a distance but it does need TLC up close before the surface rust gets serious. Plus that is where most of the rock chips are. Will likely hire mine done but would not have thought to ask for the epoxy sealer so they would have likely just sanded, primed, and painted.

I just made a command decision due to complete lack of progress since I uncovered my unplanned surprises that, since I clearly do not feel good enough to take the body loose, box the frame, prep prime and paint the frame, swap the body bushings [just given my health], I am going to finish doing what I set out to do, get the ole girl running, and take it to a good shop that can handle all the stuff my body won't allow me to do. It's sad to admit defeat because I could do it and would prefer to do it all myself but, at the rate I'm going, well the clock is ticking and not in a good way. Now to find a shop I trust to work on it . . .

Great work as usual D.
