and just about everyone on this board who has a problem with an engine has a Chevy engine....😀

That I will agree with 100%

That's because every single G-body came with one stock. Most have performed well for 30 years or more and old age has caught up. Then, faced with an expensive rebuilt or learn a new skill- many resort to an off-the-shelf cheap replacement. And then THOSE posts start.

They are old and obsolete and unless the rebuilder been rebuilding them for the last 40+ years they will always have issues

I love em'- but I learned what makes them tick. I'm always amazed at guys who think nothing of tearing a motor apart but won't learn about carburetors. In my experience the problems are always the same: they are dirty- or they have been messed with by well meaning rubberheads.

that is incorrect, quadrajets are not obsolete and are not complicated if you take the time to sit down and learn about them. The quadrajets have been working on the G bodies for over 30 years and all it takes to make them run like new again is the cost of Cliff Ruggles book, the time to read it, the cost of the soaking solution, the cost of the rebuild kit and the time to rebuild the carb. What you get is a quadrajet that works great and a big smile knowing you did the job right.

Well I am the minority here when it comes to the Q-Jets.

I use to run them but not anymore.

I have an 800 cfm quadrajet on my 355 SBC and I can tune that carb to run great on a V6. A Holley 750 would be too big for my engine and there is no way to tune it to run on my engine properly. A quadrajet feeds the engine according to the engine's needs which is my mind is perfection when it comes to a carb. I don't understand why people feel they are over their heads when it comes to a quadrajet and would rather admit failure instead of educating themselves to learn how to work on a quadrajet. A Holley is no easier to work on than a quadrajet if you know how to work on a quadrajet

I maintain that the absolute best carb is the one that came with the car. In our case it is a Rochester and the factory spent many hours with million dollar equipment to optimize that carb for that car. So I educated myself about that brand. It was not easy but what part of tuning cars is easy? My buddy hates Q-jets and loves Holleys but he beats on his cars. He is the first to admit that his Holley's need constant care while my Q-jets are set-n-forget. He also admits that for an everyday great running car- the Q-jets that I build and use are unbeatable. As always- fit the punishment to the crime.

I've never seen a q jet car smell like fuel going down the road. Yet I've seen plenty of square bore carb cars make your eyes water five mins after passing from all the fuel from the exhaust. And the owners usually think they need a bigger carb lol
