yup! my hood has a ribbed brace right about where your 3rd hood chrome nut is (from the rear)... i'll notch mine 'cause i prefer muffler symphony to air breather noise on long trips...

I love that blue you used on your engine. I can't decide what color I want my engine to be. It's orange now.
Thanks Opie. Growing up, my dad had several medium duty (C60/C65) Chevy and GMC trucks. They all ran the 366 cubic inch Big Block Chevy and all were Corporate Blue. I think that's where my affinity for that color comes from. Dad also had a 76 Suburban with a 454 and it was corporate blue. Finally, the stock 350 from my brother's 78 Camaro was Corporate Blue. I just can't identify with Chevrolet Orange. It seems to me it belongs in something older but that is just personal preference.

Just finished going through the whole thread. Another well documented build! I'm sure with the time that's passed your well beyond this point but Spectre makes a chrome air cleaner lid that is very close to stock profile. I bought one for my Cutlass and it added just a bit more bright under the otherwise stock engine bay. It'd look right at home between your chrome valve covers.

can't believe it's been so long since I followed this thread... started back in from the beginning, and am all caught up again. Glad you're feeling alot better, and even though the Galaxie is still taking up the saturdays, that you're able to give the GP some attention!

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for the tip on the air breather lid. I do like the chrome lid but I'm going to start out with the black lid. I primed the entire air breather with epoxy primer and then shot it with SEM Hot Rod Black so I have some time in that paint job. I'm not much of a chrome dress-up guy but so far I like my valve covers. They are the first set of chrome valve covers I've ever owned. I really appreciate the positive feedback from you because I really like the level of attention to detail you put into on the engines in your Olds and in your El Camino.

I'm very grateful to have my health back. After 12 years of diverticulitis I didn't realize that by the end, I was perpetually sick and just soldiering through it. Every year my diet got more restrictive and the situation got worse. There is none of that now. The worst thing I can say about it is that I'm not thrilled with how the scar looks or how the surgical wound closed up but I'm no beauty queen anyway. The GP is pretty much on hold right now. I'll get back on it in the fall. It's just too hot over there right now. I don't want to be over there in this heat. I'm planning on hitting the project hard over the winter. My main concern is that Sean and Dad's cars are ready for the Power Tour next June. If mine is ready, great. If not, that's o.k. too.

Thank you both for the interest and the kind words.

What are the winters like where you are Jared?
Very mild Chris. It can get down into the 20's or teens but that is extremely rare. I think there was only one hard freeze last winter, albeit that was a very mild winter. 40's is the cold here.

Working on cars in the extreme heat really sucks. I don't blame you for not wanting to work on your Grand Prix till Fall. At least this way you have time to save money and make plans during the Summer and then put the plan into action in the Fall. Good luck on all the projects you're involved in right now man. Your work and the work of your dad and brother is legit. You guys definitely earned your "car guy" badges, or patches, or plaques, or tattoos or whatever. I can't wait to see some of your videos. I'm gonna watch your first one later. :friday:

Here is pic of the wheels and tires I have on the car now. These are the 16" ZQ8 wheels. I bought the arrowhead decals on ebay.View attachment 40820

Jared, do you remember if your center caps had the bowtie embossed in them? I have a set I picked up at an auction last year, and hope to find those decals with the buick symbol... was wondering, if yours did have them, is the decal thick enough to not show the lines?

Thanks,
Darin

Darin, I bought the wheels new on eBay. I suspect they are reproduction, or aftermarket replacements but the quality seems fine. I bought the center caps seperately. They are aftermarket and are smooth where the Chevy logo is embossed. I bought the Pontiac decals seperately on eBay. The best way to find the center caps is to search by the four digit wheel interchange number. For the ZQ8 wheels, it is 5116. So you want your search to be '5116 center cap'. Do your own shopping, but here is a link to a set....

Look at this on eBay http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5335822911&icep_item=282474658772
