Space saver spare tire...advice?

I was looking for something and came across on an article about space saver spares. There are a few people looking for donut spares to save space and the problem that some are encountering is the donut tire is so old that it fails soon after it is mounted on the car. The new donuts that are being sold may be a bargain if you ever need to use it. I never thought of it but the donut in my GP is probably the original so it's from 1986.....😱

That's OK the one in my Malibu is the original from 1980.

Don't forget max speed on those is like 30MPH ......no one does 30MPH anywhere!!

I think they are limited to the distance they can be used as well....it's either 70 or 100 miles I think....

Now I wonder if they one I have from a '86 Monte CL parts car is even worth holding onto for an extra spare or see what I could get for the aluminum.

My friend offered another suggestion. Using a 15" stock G-body donut rim and mounting a VW type tire like a 165/80 x 15....same size tire that is used for front runners. Does anyone know what the width of a donut rim is? I never had one in my car. I'm guessing between a 5-6" width.
