I have a 1978 Chevy Monte Carlo with a small block Chevy 350 engine in it that has a new powermaster starter new powermaster alternator new battery the car runs and drives fine sometimes and cranks good but sometimes the car will not crank at all getting nothing from the starter so I have to get underneath the car with a screwdriver and touch the solenoid and hot terminal on the starter and the engine cranks over after that it starts fine but sometimes I get the same problem what should I be looking for or should do ?thanks

Next time it happens jiggle the battery cable going down to the stater.

If the car starts while jiggling the cable, replace the cable.

It may be big but they do go bad.

Another thing is does this happen when the car is cold or hot?

Does it happen after its been driven. And do you have a starter heat shield on it Headers.as well
and if you have headers on it without out the heat shield .It will do as you say.Or you may even have a defective starter cyliniod .I would take the Starter out and have it bench tested .To see if that is the problem. Then go from there.

It does it mostly when it's cold the car sits in the garage and after month when I try to hit it it will not crank but most of the time it does crank new battery new starter new alternator but if I touch this starter terminal it will crank it's like it's not getting fire from somewhere may check all the wires going to the starter and make sure there is no breaks in them

You say new starter, by chance was there paint on the starter or engine where they fit together?

I ask because that what happen to me once, l took starter off sanded away paint, problem fixed.

Also just because it's a new starter doesn't mean that it's a good starter or a good solenoid.

Another thing since you say it sits for awhile and then the issue may happen, sounds like a bad connection. I once had a truck, started all the time but if l left it for a week or 2 it didn't want to start, but if l rocked the key back an forth away it went, kind of like moisture in the curcuit.

Then I would check the solenoid and battery cable for being the issue. If you jumped it all the time and it worked, then I would say you are not getting 12 volts to the solenoid. But if you can jump it from the battery cable, either the cable is not good, or the solenoid has an issue. If it clicked all the time and still didn't crank, I would look starter too.

When it does it it's getting no sound it is silent no clicking
