Re: Cutlass on a budget build thread

Alright guys, here's the next update. Finally found the main source of the leak. Turns out it is the top drivers corner of the rear window. So I seam sealed the edge a little and am calling a glass company on monday. Hopefully they wont charge too much, everything is already taken apart, they just have to remove the glass. Here's the little bit of seam sealing:

Also finished undercoating as much as I am going to undercoat:

Next, I'm starting to make fiberglass speaker pods for some 6.5" speakers I got for Christmas. It's my first time fiber glassing so, I guess we will see how this turns out. So far i'm in that project (materials, tools) for $46.89.

Step one is making speaker rings and using a lot of painters tape to get ready to start making a mold. I'm gonna start the mold tonight.

I think its pretty good. Those flowmasters you're talking about would really set it off, although if I were you I'd do some studying on youtube so you get the exact sound that you want. Nothing sucks more than if your exhaust makes a noise you don't like it kind of spoils driving the car then. I've got just regular 40s on mine for example but I saw some other dude w/ super 44's and they sounded kind of annoying to me.

Got one of the molds cured, next step is trimming the mold and gluing the speaker framework to the mold, then wrap it in fleece. And start the drivers door, it is already taped up.

Re: Cutlass on a budget build thread

Ok guys, it's coming along slowly, but surely. Almost done with one speaker pod, and visited the glass place this morning (I'll talk about that later.) Here's some pictures

1st coat of resin on one of the speaker pods:

Went to a local glass place this morning to have my back window re-sealed. I told the guy it is leaking out of the top drivers side corner, and you can actually push the glass out with your finger. I told him if he can do it without pulling the glass that is fine, but if he has to pull the glass, then he has to pull the glass. He told me he would clean out the gap, and run a bead of silicone across the sides and top of the glass. It only took him 10 minutes and this is what he gave me:

I'm still a little bit ill about this whole deal, it cost me $40 for something that looks like it was done by a 5 year old. I can't even put the trim back on the car. Not to mention it was raining, and the guy gave it NO time to dry. My thoughts were that he was going to run a small bead of silicone right up against the glass. Not fill all the gap with a boat load of silicone.

Re: Cutlass on a budget build thread

Pretty much done with the drivers side speaker pod. Just ready for some paint. I'm not really sure what is a good cheap alternative to SEM that will match medium dark grey. Anyone have any ideas?

Here is is, after two coats of bondo and filler primer and some sanding

Here is the passenger side, all wrapped and ready for resin

The two side by side...doesnt get much closer than that!!! 8)

And here is one more shot of the almost finished mold. When sanding I used 100-150-220 and then very fine steel wool to get rid of the sand marks

This isnt as hard as I though it was gonna be, still challenging, but not too bad. Anyways, just looking for some paint to use now!

That looks great. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks man, trying to get them done with weekend. Got the last coat of resin on the other one tonight, bondo and final sanding tomorrow.
