Looks like that timing chain is ready for replacement by the amount of play just by using the screwdriver!
Haha. That's only on the one side. The other side had play too. The teeth on the gears were chewed up pretty bad. If I'd known it was that bad it wouldn't have been thrashing on it like an ape on bananas lol. No wonder it would barley idle. With a bad chain like that im lucky I didn't spin a rod. I'll have to finish it tuesday, the mosquitos were relentless...

Keeping on an update. Summit contacted me via email and told me that I will be getting the new hood. Now I don't know if I'm reading this correct, but the way I understand it is they don't want the old hood back!?...? I'll have to call them on that tomorrow.I bought the air dam spoiler(gbodyparts.com). Paid once and done. So I thought. But today I get a receipt of an additional fee of $20.08 for shipping!! That's pretty bogus. Lately I've been getting run over and over. That's why hot rodders make their own stuff. Forget the middle man!

EDIT: Apparently I did not read enough. The shipping cost is $45 flat rate so yea thats on me lol. Always protect your hard work.

Ok enough wining lol.

My front spoiler got here today. Going to take pics of the peices. I won't be installing them now. I have to put the 87 euro clip first. Then my hood. Going to look amazing. With all the different color panels and pink trunk lid lol. Yes a pink lid will be going on.

I've been having an idea floating around for an engine I may be swaping in the Cutlass. More on that later...

This ain't whining . . . just sharing information on your learning experience, good and bad!

Now that guy that has a 7 page thread trying to buy wheels? That guy is a real whiner!

Initially my plan is to swap in my sbc 355 in the cutlass. Yea I know it's not an Olds. It's what I have and it runs strong. But eventually I want to do something different but smart. So I'm thinking about dropping in a v6... Yep.

A 4.3 ecotec. The more I read about this engine the more I want to buy a wrecked 13-16 Silverado. It's basically a LS missing two cylinders. This engine puts out 285 hp and 305 ft lbs of tourqe stock. Weighing significantly less than a LS and way less than any LQ. Front mounted Turbo with conservative boost. Pushing 400hp and get 24mpg. Put some custom valve covers with Olds logo on it. It's just an idea to throw out there.

Any who Heres the front spoiler kit. Very sturdy peice they use lots of fiberglass on the corners.

Yeah, I love ingenuity. Trying to be different. Making power and mpgs too. I love the way my big block turned out but [think I mentioned this in another thread??] I was REALLY close to putting an Aurora V8 in mine when I instead decided to mix old and new trying to make a mild big block run off the '87's rudimentary computer and CCC and shooting for 20mpg. All goals were achieved! There was a guy building those 4.0L Aurora V8s primarily to stuff in Fieros pushing 600HP but noticeably less torque than I am getting from my big block. And, as you know, unlike the 2800 lb. rice burners, getting these heavier cars to move well requires torque. The way it sounds and runs, I am amazed how much my V8 big block reminds me of a performance tuned TDI [diesel] Cayenne I had before I got sick. Post tune it was north of 300HP and 500 lb.ft. with 8 gears and that wonderful AWD system getting over 30mpg. Couldn't justify keeping such a wonderful vehicle I would hardly be driving and the wife [loved to drive it but] couldn't handle the whole "driving a Porsche" stigma as her daily driver. Life should be so tough, huh? But, she can drive an Audi . . . and I am perfectly content in my old Tacoma and finally getting some miles on my 442 [when I get it all back together].

I got the 87 header panel installed. It
definitely feels more like my cutlass now with it on. The cow catcher grill doesn't do it for me. And of course I got the hood. The second hood came with a few imperfections. I'm going to eat it and just let it go. Its not worth the hassle for a third hood. The first problem with the hood is packaging. It's literally packaged like any other item. No protection what so ever. And I'm not sure UPS is entirely the one to blame I'm going to point my finger at GOODMARK. I warn anyone who is looking at this hood don't bother. It looks great don't get me wrong. But just shy of $700 for a hood, you would expect a decent amount of protection. Any who...pics. You can probably see it in the second picture.

I still have the first hood. If anyone is interested I can cut a good deal for someone in need. Sure a body guy could work out that dent. PM me.

I haven't shot a pic of the interior. So here it is... Pretty rugged if you ask me. Good thing my 87 interior is going in. And a killduf (I think it's spelled like that) 4spd shifter.

You can see it here too although, some of the dark spots are shadows off the trees. You can tell.

I had snow balled the thought of doing the new 4.3 v6 engine when I had the Vega to throw it in my concerns being programing is gunna be a few years out and they are based off the new lt1 engine (direct injection) really like the idea but first one to the mound won't be cheap to get parts for was my thought

Bent up brand new sheet metal because the manufacturer is too greedy to package it to survive shipping makes me irrationally angry. With a little body work that hood will slick out, but it should have shown up in perfect condition for that money. It's good to see you enjoying the car. I'm looking forward to seeing that body dropped down on your restored chassis.
