This might have been a bad idea, BUT

So now I have an issue with space. We unloaded the complete 3.8 turbo engine with 2004R trans under my car port. I really don't have the space to put it complete in the garage. I think I'll spend a few hours this morning tearing it down at least to a long block. This way I can put stuff in my shed which is mostly full now. Going to tag and bag stuff for sure. This will be a good education for me to get familiarized with these carbed hot air 3.8s. I read some stuff that I thought was cool at before black website last night before bed. This engine/trans from the salvage is a 1983. It has a bigger turbine housing for less lag and faster spooling. Also tube style headers and aluminum intake. These are great pieces to transfer to my Centurys engine. I have a spare Monte SS rear end 3.73 to put in the Century and will probably use the 2004R trans. It would be a neat combo and give it a little more pep in its step

This is one build that has caught my eye. I am looking forward to watching it progress. 🙂

I just need to be careful, between reading about your Century, Turbo Zach's Turbo Monte, 81cutlass' Cutlass, and some time spent at turbobuick.com I might just convince myself that my Cutlass needs a turbo 6.

So after picking up the parts you got yesterday, does this mean that the idea of using a 4.3 with the blow through turbo has gone on the back burner, and you're going with a hot air 3.8?

That is awesome! I wonder if there are 8445 heads on that '83 engine? Getting a set of those and doing some bowl work would really wake it up, and add some finned aluminum "late-model" valve covers would be a nice cheap upgrade. There are lots of nice, affordable, performance flat tappet cams out there too.

Why does this car have me so excited?!

Funny thing is that I believe the car that all these parts are going in/on is still in the forest that grew up around it. 🙂

I swear that you are the human "Energizer Bunny" Hafrod ! It keeps going, and going, and going.....

Yeah, I've decided to at least try to keep the original engine since the car is so rare.

That's an interesting point. The G value is kind of strange. I would imagine that the factory "hot rods" (GN) bring the most cash. The quality of your "tributes/clones/WTFEs" is second to none. Sadly, I don't see them bringing 5 figures. Just an observation, no harm intended!

I plan on going back to the U pull salvage looking for finned valve covers. The head casting number off the 83 model engine is 8253 or 8263. Can't tell if the 3rd digit is a 5 or 6. Are these heads good ones?
